Jennifer Bang and Amena Ross to Join SIFMA Advocacy Group

SIFMA  has hired for its Advocacy Group.

As managing directors, Bang and Ross will be responsible for federal government relations in SIFMA’s office in Washington, D.C., reporting to Mark Schuermann, head of federal government and international affairs.  

“I am very excited to have Jennifer and Amena join our team.  They both have substantial financial services policy and advocacy experience that will be of great benefit to SIFMA’s members as we advocate for efficient and effective capital markets,” said Kenneth E. Bentsen, Jr., president and CEO of SIFMA.  

Joseph Seidel, chief operating officer of SIFMA added, “Jennifer and Amena bring significant Executive branch, Capitol Hill experience and industry knowledge to SIFMA.  Their skills will be a welcomed addition to SIFMA’s policy and advocacy efforts to promote capital formation and efficient capital markets.” 

Bang joins SIFMA from the U.S. Department of Treasury, where she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Legislative Affairs. In that position, she was a key liaison between the Treasury Department and Congress, advocating for appropriations and authorizing measures including tax reform, financial services reform and trade policy. Previously, Ms. Bang was a principal at Capitol Counsel, advising clients on appropriations and financial services. She also worked on Capitol Hill in several legislative roles for former U.S. Representative Ander Crenshaw (R-FL), including serving as legislative director and as an Associate staff member to House Appropriations when Crenshaw was chair. Ms. Bang earned her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from Colorado State University.  

Ross joins SIFMA from the office of U.S. Representative Al Green (D-TX), a member of the House Financial Services Committee and Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, where she most recently served as Chief of Staff. She previously worked for Rep. Green in several capacities, including as legislative director. Ms. Ross earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampton University, and a Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law.  

Bang will begin at SIFMA on June 17.  Ross began June 10.  Both will be located in the Washington, D.C. office.
