While the winter makes its last hurrah in certain parts of the U.S., its usually sunny and warm in Florida.

This week's FLASHBACK FRIDAY Gallery visits the Sunshine State in 2010 when traders and vendors still reeling a bit from the Financial Crisis met at the The Palms Hotel & Spa in South Beach, Miami on March 18 to discuss the hottest topics in trading. The site was also recently the host city that year for Super Bowl XLIV which featured the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints carried a 31–17 victory over the Colts and won their first world championship. The featured half-time show performance was given by the British band, The Who.

In the beginning of January 2010, Florida experienced multiple morning freezes, with the coldest on Jan. 8th when temperatures dipped down to 21 degrees. Then in February, the cold remained as morning frost stayed prominent in the area and morning temperatures huddled around the 30s. These frigid temperatures for Florida were caused by an event known as sudden stratospheric warming that began around Jan. 1st, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Frank Strait. “When that occurs, it often results in a major discharge of very cold air from the Arctic and in January 2010, the weather patterns for this were favorable for this extremely cold air to push into the eastern part of the U.S.,” said Strait.

Florida was among the four states affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, the nation’s largest offshore oil spill.

Florida was at the vanguard of the tea party revolt of 2010, sending Rick Scott to the governor’s mansion and electing Marco Rubio to the U.S. Senate.
