ON THE MOVE: Sigma Broking Names Gary Pettit; Julie Gerdeman Joins BNY Mellon

Gary Pettit

Sigma Broking has appointed Gary Pettit as the business’ new CEO with immediate effect, following FCA approval. He joined Sigma Broking as a consultant in January 2023, bringing with him a wealth of experience as a financial services leader. His 35 years’ experience in the broking sector include working for institutions such as Indosuez Carr and ICAP. He also has significant management experience, having held global roles for more than two decades, including as the Chief Executive Officer (SMF1) and Executive Director (SMF3) of ED&F Man Capital Markets from September 2020, prior to its sale in November 2022.

Julie Gerdeman

BNY Mellon has appointed Julie Gerdeman as Global Head of Data & Analytics. She joins BNY Mellon from Everstream Analytics, where as CEO she led the supply-chain transformation of global organizations through the application of artificial intelligence and predictive analytics, and before that CEO of HealthPay24. She has also held executive leadership roles at SAP Ariba, J.P. Morgan, and American Express. Gerdeman reports to Akash Shah, BNY Mellon’s Chief Growth Officer.

Nasdaq Private Market (NPM) has hired Michael Buono and Phil Germann as Directors within its Capital Markets division. Buono and Germann will be tasked with driving shareholder, investor, and global bank adoption of the NPM SecondMarket trading marketplace. They will both report into Sharif Khaleel, Managing Director and Head of Execution at Nasdaq Private Market. Prior to his new role, Buono spent five years at EquityZen, most recently as the head of the institutional investment sales desk. Germann joins NPM from EquityZen as well, where he spent six years. Most recently, he served as head of the institutional markets/broker-dealer sales desk, where he led the sales strategy on the supply side for the company’s secondary trading platform.

Ryan O’Connor

Global X ETFs has appointed Ryan O’Connor as its Chief Executive Officer effective April 8, 2024O’Connor will be responsible for driving the firm’s strategy, reinvigorating its product suite, and leading Global X’s talented, performance-driven team into a new, growth-focused era for the company. Prior to joining Global X, O’Connor held the position of Global Head of ETF Product at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he was responsible for leading all aspects of its ETF product platform with direct management responsibility for a team of tenured product professionals. He was originally hired by Goldman Sachs Asset Management to build its US fund strategist model portfolio business.

The Board of Directors of T. Rowe Price Group has announced today that William J. Stromberg, its non-executive chair, and Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, its chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, will retire from the Board at the company’s upcoming May 7, 2024, annual meeting of stockholders. At that time, Robert W. Sharps will become chair of the Board, in addition to continuing as chief executive officer and president. Both Mr. Stromberg and Dr. Hrabowski will continue to serve on the Board until the meeting.

R3, an enterprise distributed ledger technology (DLT) and services firm, has appointed Bob Wigley, to its board as a Non-Executive Director. Wigley was previously EMEA Chairman of Merrill Lynch where he took a keen interest in market infrastructures as a member of the boards of the Bank of England, Euroclear and LCH Clearnet. He is an Honorary Fellow at Judge Business School within Cambridge University’s Centre for Alternative Finance.
