ON THE MOVE: Fidelity Investments Gets Jill Rathgeber; Christian Roth to Northern Trust AM

Jill Rathgeber

Jill Rathgeber has joined Fidelity Investments as Vice President, Product Strategy, Fidelity Agency Lending. Rathgeber joins Fidelity from a decade at BNY Mellon, where she was most recently director of product and strategy. In this role, she was responsible for the development of new products for the securities finance business. Prior to this, Rathgeber held a 20-year tenure with State Street Global Markets’ securities finance division, where she took on various roles, including 10 years in the securities finance product development group managing the US product development team.

Christian (Chris) Roth

Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM), a global investment management firm with $1.18 trillion in AUM as of December 31, 2023, has hired Christian (Chris) Roth as Chief Investment Officer of Global Fixed Income. Roth brings more than three decades of financial industry experience to the role. He joins most recently from Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he held a variety of global fixed income leadership roles since 1999. In 2023, he was Chairman, Broad Markets Fixed Income. Prior to that he served as Head of Multi-Sector Fixed Income, Head of Global Fixed Income and Credit, and Co-Head of the Global and European Fixed Income Team.

Baiju Bhatt

Robinhood Markets has announced that Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer, Baiju Bhatt, will step down from his executive role after over ten years in leadership to pursue other entrepreneurial interests. Bhatt will remain a member of Robinhood’s Board of Directors. “Since I helped found this company in 2013, Robinhood has been my life. For more than a decade, I have worked tirelessly to drive our mission to democratize the financial services industry for the betterment of society. I will have more to share about my next steps soon but know the future has never been so bright,” he commented. 

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System has selected Stephen Gilmore as the pension fund’s chief investment officer. His appointment is expected to become effective in July. Gilmore, an internationally recognized investment leader whose career has spanned 40 years, comes to CalPERS after more than five years as the chief investment officer of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund (NZ Super Fund), a sovereign wealth fund owned by the New Zealand government and valued at more than $73 billion (NZD).

EJF Capital, a global alternative asset management firm, has announced that John W. Murray and Derrick G. Preuss have joined the firm as Managing Directors. Murray brings over 26 years of structured product investment experience to EJF. Most recently, he was a Senior Managing Director of Portfolio Management and the Chief Portfolio Manager at Arlington Asset Investment Corporation. Preuss brings nearly two decades of financial services experience and expertise to EJF. Previously, he was a Partner at Winston Partners, where he spent nearly 13 years. 

Q2 Holdings, a provider of digital transformation solutions for financial services, has promoted Katharine Briggs to the newly created role of Chief Product Officer (CPO) and will become a member of Q2’s executive leadership team. Briggs brings nearly 30 years of experience in the financial services, advisory, and technology industries to the CPO role. Most recently, she led Q2’s Customer Success organization, working closely with the Product teams to ensure Q2 solutions deliver measurable value and success to more than 1300 financial institution customers.
