Mizuho Securities USA added four sales traders in New York. Ralph Basile and Vincent Sgherza both join as directors, and Noelle Pepe and Michael Moore both join as vice presidents. Basile, with more than 15 years’ experience, joins from Lazard Capital. Sgherza, a 14-year veteran, was previously with Barclays. Prior to that, he was at Lehman Brothers, where he began his career. Pepe, an eight-year veteran, was previously with Hapoalim Securities, where she spent three years, after stints at Soleil Securities and Janney Montgomery. Moore, an 11-year veteran, was previously with Dahlman Rose & Co., where he spent more than two years. Moore started his career as a clerk at Farina & Associates on the floor of the Big Board. He has also worked on the buyside at both Amaranth Advisors and Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The new sales traders all report to Brad Wilson, who heads U.S. sales trading.
Brennan Carley joins Thomson Reuters as its global head of trading connectivity in New York. Carley, with more than 20 years in financial services technology, previously spent two years at Spread Networks as a senior vice president of product marketing. Earlier, he was chief product and strategy officer for Radianz, an extranet provider he co-founded in 2000. The firm was sold to British Telecom in 2005.
JonesTrading added two new hires – one in derivatives and another to run technology. CFA Jeff Micsky joins as a vice president in equity derivative sales. Micsky, a seven-year veteran, was previously with Credit Suisse, where he spent two years. At Jones, he will work with clients to develop and execute options strategies. He reports to Tom Steen, who heads global derivatives.Jack Garceau joins as chief technology officer. A 23-year financial technology veteran, Garceau joins from Fidessa, where he spent 13 years. He was most recently head of business development there. He reports to Packy Jones, the firm’s chairman and chief executive.
Getco hires Chris Amorello as head of institutional sales. A 10-year veteran, Amorello was previously a managing director and head of sales in ITG’s Boston office. He is charged with leading Getco’s sales effort among financial institutions.
Peter Mulieri joins Fox River Execution as a managing director in sales. Mulieri, a 20- year financial market professional, will focus on expanding the firm’s client base and electronic offerings. He comes from ITG, where he was a managing director and was responsible for the trading, sales, development and delivery of the company’s trading technology products and services, such as order and execution management systems and algorithms. He reports to head of sales Drew Mader.
High-frequency trading firm Tradebot Systems named Eric Boles as its new chief executive and president, effective Jan. 1, 2012. Boles, a nine-year veteran, joined Kansas City, Mo.-based Tradebot in 2003 as a sales trader and has served as the firm’s head of U.S. equities and its global head of trading. Boles reports to chairman of the board Dave Cummings.
Patrick D’Angelo joins Otkritie Capital, the U.S. subsidiary of Russian investment bank Otkritie Financial as director of equity sales trading. D’Angelo, a 20-year veteran, will lead the firm’s effort to establish a trading desk and sales effort for North America. He comes from hedge fund Hyerdale Capital, where he was a portfolio manager and managing partner for the last five years.
Pipeline named Jay Biancamano as executive chairman, replacing Al Berkeley. Biancamano, a 22-year professional, was formerly global head of marketplace and corporate strategy at block crossing network Liquidnet. Prior to that, he was a vice president and director at ITG. He reports to the Pipeline board.
Patty Kevin- Schuler, vice president of sales and marketing at BOX Exchange, was named a two-year term governor by the Security Traders Association. Schuler, a 25-year veteran, is also the 2011-2012 president of the Security Traders Association of Chicago. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2012.
ConvergEx Group has promoted R.G. Manalac to managing director for the Asia-Pacific region. He will continue to serve as director of Asia-Pacific consulting for the company’s Eze Castle Software. Manalac has been with ConvergEx more than eight years. Prior to joining the company, he was a hedge fund trader in San Francisco.
BTIG has added four new traders sales traders Francis Heine and Joseph Fragala and U.S. equities traders Christopher Sula and Phil Dauber to its equities desk. Heine, a 27-year veteran, had been a sales trader at Morgan Stanley covering global institutions for North and South American equities for the last 22 years. He joins as a managing director out of BTIG’s Red Bank, N.J. office, while the others all join in New York. Fragala, who has more than 15 years of experience, joins as senior vice president from BGC Partners. Sula, a 16-year veteran, joins as a managing director, having previously served as head of cash trading for Knight Securities. Dauber, a 25-year veteran, joins as a managing director after three years at J.P. Morgan.
Innovation Advisors hires Steve Hovagimyan as a director in financial technology M&A. Hovagimyan, a 20-year veteran and Portware alum, will focus on growing the company’s multi-asset trading technology. He has been involved in M&A transactions including EdgeTrade, Scivantage, Instinet’s purchase of LIR and investing in Arca. He reports to Innovation founder Eric Gebaide.
David Harkey joins Traders Magazine as its advertising sales manager. He replaces Michael Moran. Harkey, a nine-year sales veteran, comes from Thomson Reuters, where he was director of sales, managing print and online advertising and conference sales for Buyouts Magazine, pehub.com and hedgeworld.com. In 2005 and 2006, he did a stint selling advertising for SourceMedia, the parent company of Traders Magazine. In his new role, he will be responsible for advertising sales for Traders Magazine, Clearing Quarterly & Directory and Securities Technology Monitor. He reports to publisher Ken Heath.
Henry Yegerman joins agency broker UNX as head of product management. Yegerman, with more than 25 years of industry experience, was previously with ITG, where he was managing director of analytical products and creator of its transaction-cost analysis products. At UNX, he will oversee global product management of Catalyst, the firm’s open-architecture electronic trading platform. His charge is to grow Catalyst’s trading capabilities across asset classes and global financial markets. That includes the delivery of customized trading products to the buyside and sellside.
