ON THE MOVE: Google Hires Venables from Goldman; LuxSE Promotes Becker

Google Cloud hired Phil Venables to be the company’s first Chief Information Security Officer. A cybersecurity and risk management veteran, Venables joins Google Cloud from Goldman Sachs, where he spent 20 years as their CISO and in various security roles. For Google, the CISO is a new role focused entirely on Cloud and ensuring its security and compliance, and also engaging Cloud customers, partners and stakeholders on security matters. 

The Luxembourg Stock Exchange appointed Julie Becker as LuxSE’s next CEO and Chair of its Executive Committee. She joined the Luxembourg Stock Exchange in July 2013 and was appointed to the company’s Executive Committee two years later. She was appointed Deputy CEO of LuxSE in December 2019. Becker will take over the reins of the exchange on April 21, 2021, when current CEO Robert Scharfe will step down after nine years at the helm of the exchange. Scharfe and Becker will work side by side in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.

IHS Markit, a provider of information, analytics and expertise, hired 30-year capital markets veteran Seiichiro Miyaoka as Managing Director and APAC Head of the Global Markets Group. In this newly created Tokyo-based role, Miyaoka will collaborate with the GMG regional commercial and technology leadership teams and engage the firm’s APAC clients to drive scalable innovation and enhanced capabilities. Miyaoka joined IHS Markit from Mizuho Securities, where he engaged both in primary and secondary business; he previously worked at Nomura and UBS. 

BNP Paribas USA appointed Claudine Gallagher as Head of Human Resources for CIB (Corporate & Institutional Banking) Americas. Gallagher will be based in New York and will report to José Placido, CEO of CIB Americas, and functionally to Laure Morsy, Head of HR for CIB. Gallagher has been with BNP Paribas for 14 years in a number of senior roles in France, between 1995-2001, and in the US, where she rejoined the firm in 2012 after a 10-year stint at JP Morgan. She is currently CCCO for CIB Americas and BNP Paribas USA, a role that she will continue to oversee until mid-2021 as a successor is identified.

Facteus, a data and analytics provider, appointed Mohammed Shaalan to the new role of chief data officer. Shaalan brings over 25 years of experience in technology, data science, quantitative modeling, fundamental and alternative data analysis, risk management and portfolio analysis. Most recently, he served as principal and senior consultant at Carlson Capital, where he designed and implemented the firm’s alternative data strategy. Prior to his work at Carlson Capital, Shaalan was the founder and CEO at Finweavers, a fintech startup.

Cboe Global Markets announced the planned retirement of Carol Kennedy, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, after 27 years’ service to the company, on December 31, 2020. Cboe plans to promote Stacie Fleming, current Vice President, Marketing and Communications, and former Head of Marketing and Communications for Cboe Europe, to Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, effective January 1, 2021. 

Baton Systems, a provider of post-trade products and services appointed Jerome Kemp as Senior Advisor. Kemp brings 30 plus years of experience in the futures industry where he held various leadership roles in Paris, Tokyo and London. He recently announced his retirement from Citi after spending nine years as Managing Director, where he drove the growth of the cleared derivatives business to a position of global industry leadership, along with his expanded responsibilities in the bank’s FX prime brokerage business. Before joining Citi in 2011, Kemp spent 18 years at J.P. Morgan, where he was the Global Co-Head of the Futures and Options and OTC clearing business.

Quantitative Brokers, an execution algorithm provider for interest rate trading, appointed Eurex veteran Tim Gits as its new sales director, The TRADE reported. Gits joins Quantitative Brokers to oversee its expansion strategy and team growth including strategic sales hires, and product development on the firm’s algo suite. Gits spent 12 years at derivatives exchange Eurex most recently as deputy global head of fixed income, funding, and financing. Previously he worked in several sales roles including head of clearing sales for the Americas at Eurex.
