ON THE MOVE: TMX Names McKenzie CEO; BTIG Nabs Conze

TMX Group appointed John McKenzie Chief Executive Officer. McKenzie, who assumes the role effective immediately, also becomes a member of the TMX Group Limited Board of Directors. McKenzie had served as TMX Group interim CEO since the retirement of former CEO Lou Eccleston in January 2020. McKenzie brings more than 25 years of valuable leadership experience to his new role, including 20 years in increasingly senior executive positions at TMX. 

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced that Caroline A. Crenshaw and Hester M. Peirce were sworn into office as SEC commissioners. Ms. Crenshaw and Ms. Peirce were both unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 6. Commissioner Crenshaw is a captain in the United States Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General’s Corps, and has served in positions across the SEC, including in the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations, the Division of Investment Management, and as counsel to Commissioners Kara Stein and Robert J. Jackson, Jr. Commissioner Peirce first was sworn in as a Commissioner in 2018. She has focused on matters of innovation in financial services and has led the Commission’s efforts to stand up the Dodd-Frank Act Title VII regulatory regime.

PremiaLab announced the appointment of Dr. Vincent Zoonekind as Head of Data Science to lead its research and development team. Dr. Zoonekind served as Director of Quantitative Research at Deutsche Bank from 2013 to 2019, and previously held senior positions at SRL and Goldman Sachs. Dr. Zoonekind has over 15 years’ experience involving quantitative research and data science. He will be responsible to further scale PremiaLab’s ambitious research development plan specifically providing further insights from PremiaLab’s unique dataset on quantitative investment strategies.

The Financial Information Forum, an industry association focused on addressing and resolving open implementation issues that impact the securities industry across the order lifecycle, appointed Howard Meyerson as Managing Director. Meyerson will manage the organization as FIF continues to be the lead organization for implementation on projects like CAT, Reg 606, front and back office, market data and cloud deployment. Meyerson was most recently the Global Chief Compliance Officer at Liquidnet Holdings, where he managed legal, regulatory and compliance for the introduction and operation of the Liquidnet trading system.

Schroders appointed a Head of Private Debt for Australia as the firm continues to enhance its private assets capabilities to better meet clients’ evolving investment objectives. Nicole Kidd, who has over 25 years of investment banking and asset management experience, will assume the newly-created role on 1 September and be based in Schroders’ Sydney office. She joins from RBC where she was most recently Managing Director and Head of Corporate Banking Australia and Institutional Client Management Asia-Pacific.

BTIG announced that Michael Conze joined the firm’s Outsource Trading unit as a Director. Based in New York, he will work to expand the reach of the Outsource Trading team. Michael has over 20 years of industry experience. Prior to BTIG, he was a Healthcare Trader at Pura Vida Investments.

Data and intelligence platform Moneyhub appointed R. Todd Ruppert to its advisory board. Bringing over 40 years of experience in financial services and disruptive technologies industries, Todd is a venture partner at Greenspring Associates, a US-based venture capital firm with over $10 billion under management. He is retired from T. Rowe Price, the global asset management firm with over $1.0 trillion under management, where he was CEO and president of T. Rowe Price Global Investment Services.

Redd Intelligence, an online fixed-income intelligence and analytics platform focused on emerging markets, announced that David Orbay-Graves has joined as Managing Editor of Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEEMEA). He oversees a team of three other new staffers in London and reports into Gabriel DeSanctis, Global Editor in Chief and CEO of Asia.

IHS Markit announced the appointment of Gay Huey Evans OBE as an independent director to its board, effective August 21, 2020. She will also join the company’s audit committee. Following the appointment, 40% of the independent directors on the IHS Markit board are female.

Huey Evans is chairman of the London Metal Exchange and a member of Her Majesty’s Treasury Board in the United Kingdom. She is also a non-executive director of Standard Chartered and ConocoPhillips. Between 2008 and 2010, Huey Evans was vice chairman, Investment Banking and Investment Management at Barclays Capital. From 1998 to 2005, Ms. Huey Evans was director of the markets division and head of the capital markets sector at the U.K. Financial Services Authority.
