Traders Magazine Poll Says Half Expect Tight Super Bowl

Roughly 57 percent of the participants in a Traders Magazine poll on this Sunday’s Super Bowl XLII say the New England Patriots will defeat the New York Football Giants and go undefeated this season, going 19-0.

In short, the majority of those picking the Pats don’t think it will be as close a game as those picking the Giants. That should not come as a surprise, given that the Patriots are currently favored to win by 12 points by Las Vegas oddsmakers.

The poll revealed that if the Patriots win, nearly two-thirds picking them think they will by more than seven points. Conversely, if the Giants win Sunday’s NFL championship game in Arizona, about 80 percent of those picking the Giants say it will be close, by seven points or less.

Still, 56 percent of poll participants–36 percent for the Giants, 20 percent for the Pats–say the game will be decided by seven points or less.

For the Patriots: Exactly 20 percent of the poll’s participants said the Pats will win the game by between eight and 13 points. And 17 percent are expecting a cakewalk, saying the Pats will win by more than 14 points. So, about 37 percent of those polled think the Pats will win by more than seven points–or 65 percent of those picking the Pats.

Conversely, about 36 percent polled picked the Giants to win a tight contest, and think the G-Men will win by seven points or less: 17 percent said the Giants will win by a field goal or less; 19 percent said the Giants will win by between four and seven points. Only 8 percent polled think the Giants will win by more than seven points.
