In August, 3,575 stocks were quoted on the Bulletin Board by 337 market makers. Average daily volume that month was about 225 million shares. Nearly 5,000 stocks are quoted on the Pink Sheets' Electronic Quotation Service (EQS) by 275 dealers. Volume was 67 million shares on a recent day.
Those figures include approximately 1,700 stocks quoted on both systems. Most trades in the dually-listed stocks are done on the Bulletin Board, dealers say. About 2,000 of the 3,000 stocks that trade exclusively on the electronic Pink Sheets are those that were dropped by the Bulletin Board, according to Pink Sheer chairman Cromwell Coulson.
