Nasdaq Changes Out Sales Chief for Trading Business

Nasdaq OMX Group is swapping out the head of sales in its U.S. equities trading business.

The operator of the Nasdaq Stock Market said in a communication to its customers Friday that it hired Manny Santayana, a managing director and senior advisor at Credit Suisse, as vice president of Nasdaq’s U.S. Equities Sales operation. He will report to Eric Noll, executive vice president of Transactions Services in the United States and United Kingdom.

Santayana spent 13 years at Credit Suisse, most recently as global head of sales for the broker-dealer’s Advanced Execution Services unit. Together with Dan Mathisson, now Credit Suisse’s head of U.S. equity trading, Santayana built the group into one of the most successful electronic trading shops in the industry.

Santayana replaces Stacey Cunningham, who has been head of U.S. sales since August 2011. She joined Nasdaq OMX in March 2007, according to her LinkedIn profile, as director of Capital Markets.

Robert Madden, a spokesman for the company, confirmed the authenticity of the communication to customers. But he gave no reason for the change in heads of sales for its equities trading business.

“We don’t comment on specific personnel moves,’’ he said, in an email message. “We are always focused on enhancing Transaction Services sales efforts and improving our markets to better support our member firms.”

Before Credit Suisse, Santayana headed sales for the electronic trading and portfolio transition management businesses at State Street Global Advisors.

Noll, who sent the message, said the Transaction Services business also named Brad Vopni to be Senior Vice President of U.S. Equity Market Product Management and Strategy. Vopni led the software team for its INET trading systems and has overseen NASDAQ OMX’s Operations Center. Vopni will report to Noll as well

Reporting to Vopni will be Michael Blaugrund as Vice President of U.S. Equity Product Strategy and David Lawn, Vice President of Trading & Market Operations.
