ON THE MOVE: SIFMA Promotes Lucas West; Sahana Athreya to Barclays

SIFMA has promoted Lucas West to Executive Vice President and Head of Advocacy. In this role, Lucas will be SIFMA’s senior government affairs officer and will lead SIFMA’s federal advocacy efforts, according to a press release. Prior to joining SIFMA, Lucas served as senior policy advisor for U.S. Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), a leading member of the House Financial Services Committee (HFSC) who served as Chairman of the HFSC Subcommittee on Financial Institutions, and Chairman of the HFSC Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions.

Barclays Research has appointed Sahana Athreya as Global Head of Data Science & Applied AI, based in New York. According to a press statement, Athreya will lead the firm’s data science, artificial intelligence and advanced analytics agenda across Research. Prior to joining Barclays, Athreya led data science and advanced machine learning initiatives at some of the world’s leading hedge funds, including Eisler Capital and Millennium Management.

Citi has appointed Lee Smallwood Chief Operating Officer of its Markets business, according to a source familiar with the matter. Lee has experience across Markets front-office roles, COO leadership, and work in innovation, data and AI. In his new role, Lee will partner with Markets leadership on the division’s operating model and strategic priorities. Most recently, as Markets Head of Innovation and Investments, he led global teams focused on data-driven platforms, AI initiatives and strategic investments.

Britni Ihle

Britni Ihle has joined BlackRock as Managing Director, the firm confirmed to Traders Magazine via email. Ihle joins from Citi, where she spent more than four years in senior trading roles. Most recently, she served as Head of Cross-Product Trading, Spread Products from November 2024, after previously serving as Head of Credit Quant Trading – North America from December 2021 to November 2024. Before Citi, Ihle spent more than a decade at Credit Suisse.

Daniel Mottram, Nicole Nesbitt, and Will Tsui have joined Brandes Investment Partners, according to a press release. Mottram serves as Director, Institutional Group at Brandes. He began his career as a portfolio specialist in alternatives and multi asset, before moving to institutional sales and consultant relations at J O Hambro Capital Management.Nesbitt joins Brandes as Director, Institutional Group. She most recently served as Global Head of Institutional Client Service at Brown Advisory. Tsui assumes the role of Director, Institutional Group. He joins Brandes from First Eagle, where he held a similar role, with previous experience at Causeway Capital and as a research analyst at Aon.
