ON THE MOVE: Rosenblatt Appoints Gawronski CEO; Cboe Names Berte President of BIDS Trading

Joe Gawronski

Rosenblatt Securities has appointed Joe Gawronski as Chief Executive Officer of the firm, succeeding founder and securities-industry pioneer Richard Rosenblatt, who will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board. Gawronski joined Rosenblatt Securities as Chief Operating Officer in 2002, after serving as COO of Linx, an innovative crossing network also founded by Rosenblatt. Previously, Gawronski was an equity research salesperson with Salomon Smith Barney, as well as a securities and mergers and acquisitions attorney with Sullivan & Cromwell.

Stephen Berte

Cboe Global Markets has named Stephen Berte as President of its BIDS Trading unit, effective April 4, 2022. Berte has nearly 20 years of experience in equity trading and is joining BIDS from Tourmaline Partners, where he was a Managing Director and founded and led its Boston office.

Nadia Grant

Nadia Grant has joined BNP Paribas Asset Management as Head of Global Equities, effective April 4. She will be responsible for BNPP AM’s Global Equity team based in London and Paris. Grant’s career spans 22 years and she joins from Capital Group, where she was a portfolio manager within the Capital Solutions Group responsible for global multi-asset solutions. 

WisdomTree Investments has promoted Ben Wallach and Heather Reisner to drive the firm’s client-first ESG strategy in the U.S. Both appointments reaffirm the company’s stance that ESG is an integral part of the full spectrum of product development. Wallach joined WisdomTree in 2011, focusing on product and business development for over a decade at the firm and is now Head of Product Development & ESG. Reisner has been with WisdomTree since 2018 in a role overseeing the development of new products and management of existing products and is now Senior Associate, Product Development & ESG.

Clear Street has made senior hires to its engineering team. Emilio Schapira has joined as Engineering Lead — Clearing & Custody; Infrastructure, while Madhu Subbu has been appointed Engineering Lead — Securities Financing. Schapira joined after years of experience in lead engineering roles at Waze and the Google Cloud Platform. Prior to Clear Street, Subbu was CEO of Enigmatch, working to automate OTC markets through the use of combinatorial auction technology.

Adam Cohen of Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking and Tom Gillis of Wells Fargo Securities were elected to the board of FIA. Nicholas Rustad of J.P. Morgan Securities will continue as chair after being approved last year for a two-year term. 

Pico has named Stacie Swanstrom as Chief Product Officer. Swanstrom’s vast experience includes a 27-year career at Nasdaq, where she served in a multitude of executive leadership roles including Executive Vice President, Global Corporate Solutions as well as Global Head of Access Services, overseeing access to Nasdaq’s markets worldwide through colocation, connectivity, trade reporting, trading applications and risk management applications. 

Baton Systems has appointed Ronn Baker as Senior Director of North American Sales. Baker previously served at Wells Fargo, where he was most recently Director of Innovation & Digital Strategy, spearheading the implementation of DLT, cryptocurrencies and digital assets for the FX trading and Capital Markets division. 

BMLL has hired Tim Baker as Senior Adviser, based in New York. He will be responsible for growing BMLL’s US client base, developing and implementing the company’s growth strategy in the region. Baker brings over 30 years of experience across a wide variety of disciplines from sell side research, banking, M&A, technology, data and data science. He has served in a variety of senior roles at IEX, UBS, Refinitiv and Thomson Reuters, while also working for and investing in smaller fintechs, building an extensive network across the industry over time.

Tyr Capital, a cryptocurrency hedge fund, has hired Olivier Trombert as CEO. The residing CEO, Nick Norris, will take over the operational side of the business as Chief Operating Officer (COO), following the launch of Tyr Capital’s new venture fund last month. Trombert brings with him over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, having started his career at Société Générale where he progressed from junior trader to head the energy options trading desk.
