ON THE MOVE: Matt Eilers Joins Scotiabank; Tourmaline Re-Hires Jeff Zuckerman

Matt Eilers

Matt Eilers will join Scotiabank as SVP & Global Co-head of Corporate and Investment Banking on April 9. Eilers will work alongside Dany Beauchemin, SVP & Global Co-head of Corporate and Investment Banking to lead the Bank’s global investment banking business. Eilers is a seasoned banker with deep expertise in leading global banking teams across coverage and product groups. Most recently, he was the Global Co-Head of the firm’s Alternative Capital Group at UBS, which included Global Financial Sponsors, Global Private Funds Group, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Family Office Coverage and Canadian Global Banking.

Jeff Zuckerman

Jeff Zuckerman has returned to Tourmaline as a Managing Director where he will oversee senior trading responsibilities. He is a veteran of Blackstone, Deutsche Bank, and Ziff Brothers. Zuckerman originally joined Tourmaline in 2014 and is coming back to leverage its scale, autonomy, and direct access to critical sell-side resources on behalf of institutional clients. Having rejoined Tourmaline after four years at Wells Fargo, his perspective shaped by experience across both the buy- and sell-side, makes him well-positioned to comment on current trading dynamics, the role of outsourced trading, and the evolving needs of institutional investors.

Rahul Varma

Rahul Varma will serve as the Acting Director of the Division of Market Oversight at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Varma joined the CFTC in 2013 as an Associate Director for Market Surveillance in DMO, with responsibility for energy, metals, agricultural, and softs markets. In 2017, he helped start the Market Intelligence Branch in DMO and served as its Acting Deputy Director. In 2024, he took on the role of Deputy Director for the combined Market Intelligence and Product Review branches.

J.P Morgan Asset Management has expanded its presence in Canada with three new additions to their client advisor team. Abby Lee, Marcus Berry and Alex Kwok join the firm as vice presidents and client advisors for the firm in Canada located in Toronto, Southwest Ontario and Vancouver. As an employee since 2017, Lee was previously the Chief of Staff for the Global Head of Private Markets & Customized Solutions and part of the North America Institutional team. Berry joins us from Invesco where he spent the last 21 years of his career.  He was an ETF Specialist for the Product Strategy and Research team. Kwok joins of from Mackenzie Investments we he spent 3.5 years as District Vice President covering advisors in Southwest Ontario. 

Barclays has appointed Jason Short as a Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors Group (FSG), based in San Francisco and covering West Coast accounts. Short rejoins Barclays with a nearly 20-year career in financial services. Most recently, he was a Managing Director on the Financial Sponsors team at Deutsche Bank, where he has been since 2019.

Apex Group, a global financial services provider, has appointed Michael Goering as Product Chief Operating Officer. Goering has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a strong track record of driving efficiencies, accelerating growth and delivering standout client experiences. Prior to joining Apex Group, Goering held the position of Vice President and Head of Investment Managed Services at S&P Global.

UX Wealth Partners, an asset management platform specializing in AI and machine learning investment technologies, has announced the appointment of Brad Roth to the role of Chief Investment Officer. Alongside his appointment, Roth will continue in his current role as Co-Founder and CIO of THOR Financial Technologies, where he has played a pivotal part in developing its investment strategies and solutions. Prior to co-founding THOR Financial Technologies, he was a managing partner at Sardonyx Capital, overseeing a quantitative securities fund.
