ON THE MOVE: Firstrade Appoints Don Montanaro; Webull Promotes Anthony Denier

Don Montanaro

Firstrade, an online brokerage firm, has appointed Don Montanaro as its new President. Former co-founder and CEO of TradeKing, Montanaro brings over 30 years of leadership experience, serving at the forefront of the retail trading industry with a background including strategic planning and execution, product, marketing and customer service leadership, risk management, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in brokerage and more broadly in the fintech sector. In his new role, Montanaro will support current and new Firstrade clients, formulating business line strategies and driving growth initiatives for the company.

Webull, a commission-free trading platform, has promoted Anthony Denier, former Webull US CEO, to Group President. He will be responsible for managing the company’s regulated businesses across the globe, including all licensed broker-dealers. Denier is one of the founding members of Webull US, one of the business’s core entities. He has an established track record of delivering results for Webull over his 6+ year tenure. Since joining the firm in 2017, he has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the company, leveraging business and management skills.

Jackie Marks 

Jackie Marks has joined AllianceBernstein and will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on March 1. She will report to President and CEO Seth Bernstein and will partner closely with Mr. Bernstein and Chief Operating Officer Karl Sprules. Marks joins from Condé Nast Publications, where she served as CFO. She joins AB with more than 20 years of relevant experience in delivering growth and overseeing sound controls in both complex and dynamic operating environments. Marks role will be based in Nashville with the firm’s Finance team, and she will join both the Operating Committee and CEO’s leadership team. She will succeed interim CFO Bill Siemers, who will remain with the firm as a Senior Advisor.

After 24 years at SIFMA, Tom Price has informed of his decision to retire in November. Price will serve in his current role as Managing Director and Head of SIFMA’s Operations & Technology Group through May 2024, leading the industry transition efforts through the May 28 T+1 implementation date. Following that he will serve as a senior advisor, providing for a smooth transition to new leadership of the group. A search for Price’s replacement will commence expeditiously.

BNP Paribas Securities Services has appointed Richard Hughes joins as Senior Global Relationship Manager and Managing Director based in the New York office. Hughes has over 30 years of banking experience where he has worked in a variety of financial institutions coverage and relationship management roles in the UK and Australia. He joined BNP Paribas in 2005 and was previously at ANZ, WestLB and Barclays. Most recently, Richard was based in Sydney where he managed and developed BNP Paribas’ strategic relationships with its largest regional asset manager clients. In addition, James Keenan joins as Director responsible for new sales initiatives across BNP Paribas Institutional Investors franchise. Keenan has more than 15 years of financial services experience. He joins the team from J.P. Morgan where he actively sold into institutional and public sector clients across the globe and played a significant role in the growth of J.P. Morgan’s securities services business. 

Michael Young has joined Chatham Financial as chief product and technology officer. He brings over 25 years of product innovation and development experience to the firm’s growing technology platform and software products suite. His appointment coincides with Chatham’s expanded presence with the opening of its New York City office at Hudson Yards. Young’s leadership will focus on the strategic advancement of Chatham’s technology platform, leveraging his experience in AI-powered capabilities and real-time data distribution to new and existing products. Prior to Chatham, Young served as the Chief Technology Officer at Reuters and in several leadership roles with multiple technology start-ups and fintech firms.
