Jatin Vara, Global Co-head of Trading at BlackRock, shared on Linkedin that he has left the investment giant after 27 years. “It has been a privilege to work, learn & build alongside so many talented & driven colleagues across the breadth of the firm,” Vara said. He didn’t specify where he’s going but he said he’d commence a “new journey” in May.

Cunningham brings deep expertise across origination, sales, and trading, along with longstanding client relationships and a strong track record of execution. Since joining the firm in 2018, Mike has played a key role in expanding the Structured Products platform and strengthening the client franchise. In his new role, he will oversee all aspects of the Structured Products business, including sales, trading, and asset finance.

Blue Ocean Technologies has appointed Robert Virgilio as Chief Compliance Officer of Blue Ocean ATS, who will be based in New York, according to a press statement. Virgilio brings over 25 years of experience managing all aspects of compliance for global financial services organizations, with deep expertise in evolving market and regulatory structures, US and non-US institutional trading, electronic and algorithmic trading, and supervisory controls for broker-dealers. Most recently Virgilio was at Daishin Securities, where he led Global Investment Products, spearheading retail sales for global equity exchange trading and brokerage, managing relationships with NYSE, Nasdaq, and intermediate brokers, and developing ATS connectivity while working alongside IT teams. The Company also announced the appointment of Daehyum (Derek) Kim as a Trade Support Senior Analyst, a newly created position to support continued growth in South Korea and throughout Asia Pacific. Based in Blue Ocean’s Seoul office, Kim will contribute to Operations teams’ overnight support in the region.
Yoshihiro Hyakutome, Deputy President, Executive Officer and Co-Head of the Global Business Unit of SMBC Group, has been identified by SMBC Group as a candidate to be a member of the Jefferies Board of Directors, replacing Toru Nakashima, CEO of SMBC Group. The Jefferies Board unanimously approved adding Mr. Hyakutome to the director nominee slate, and Mr. Hyakutome will be standing for election at the upcoming Jefferies Annual Meeting of Shareholders, according to a press release.
Richard Gomez has been appointed as Chief Technology Officerof Exchange Systems at MEMX, according to a press release. Gomez, who most recently served as MEMX’s Chief Architect, will be responsible for all software development and technological support across MEMX exchanges and its market technology offerings. As part of his new role, he will join the firm’s Leadership Team.
Sodali & Co, a global capital markets-centric stakeholder advisory firm, has announced that Brett Miller has joined the firm as Global Head of Data Analytics based in New York. Miller joins from BlackRock where he served as Head of Data Analytics for its Investment Stewardship team, according to a press release. Before joining BlackRock, Miller spent six years at Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS), where he helped establish ISS Analytics and led the Data Solutions business.
The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) has announced the appointments of Jeff Allsop, Rick Byers, Deborah Starkman, and Georgia Woods to its Board of Directors, where each will serve a two‑year term. Together the new appointees have extensive experience across a number of sectors – from financial services and capital markets to technology and digital transformation, according to a press release.
