OpenFin Shares HTML5 Container Info and Creates Advisory Board

There is growing uniformity in the trading world when it comes to technology.

OpenFin, financial technology provider, today announced that for the first time it is open-sourcing its HTML5 container technology for financial desktops. The firm said the publication of its technology is aimed at promoting community and uniformity among traders desktops across the globe.

Currently, OpenFin is being used by over 20 leading global banks, buyside firms and trading platforms.

The firm also announced the formation of an industry advisory board, with member firms including: Barclays, Citi, CME Group, ICAP, JPMorgan, REDI, RBS, Trading Technologies and Tullett Prebon, to guide the direction of both its open-source and enterprise offerings.

HTML5 is rapidly being adopted by the financial industry because it is both light-weight and is the only cross-platform language supported by all major technology vendors including Google, Microsoft and Apple. However, modern web browsers which are typically used to run HTML5, do not provide the capabilities needed by real-time trading applications.

The OpenFin container will be open-sourced under the Apache 2.0 license.
