SEC Names Gallagher to Trading and Markets Post

The Securities and Exchange Commission appointed Daniel Gallagher as deputy director in its Division of Trading and Markets. He will share that title with Robert Colby, who has been in the position since 1993. Both men report to director Erik Sirri. Since 2007, Gallagher has served as counsel to SEC chairman Christopher Cox. Before that he served as counsel to Commissioner Paul Atkins. In those capacities, he worked on several Trading and Markets rule makings, including Nasdaq’s exchange application and the NYSE/Euronext merger. Earlier in his career, while at law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr, he represented broker-dealer clients in SEC and SRO enforcement proceedings.

The SEC attributed Gallagher’s hire to growth in the division’s staff and responsibilities.
