Vogel’s New Role

Grace Vogel, responsible for member firm regulation at NYSE Regulation, will head up risk oversight and operational regulation at the new self-regulatory organization being created by the merger of NASD and NYSE Regulation. The department of risk oversight and operational regulation is half of the new entity’s member regulation group. The other half, the department of sales practice regulation, will be headed by current NASD executive Robert Errico. The two will jointly run member regulation.

Vogel’s new beat involves sending examiners into member brokerage houses on a periodic basis to check up on their compliance with industry rules. Audits cover trading departments, among others.

At NYSE Regulation, Vogel’s responsibilities cover about 350 firms. In the new SRO, she will add about 4,700 more. The as-yet-unnamed SRO is expected to come into existence this quarter.
