SEC’s Schapiro Joins D.C.-Based Consultancy

Former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro has joined Promontory Financial Group as a consultant.

The SEC’s ex-chief landed at the Washington D.C.-based consultant just a few months after resigning from the regulator. She announced her resignation last December.

In a press release, the consultant said Schapiro is a managing director and chairman of its governance and markets practice, Schapiro will work with clients to “ensure that the quality of corporate governance is commensurate with the demands of running modern public companies.”

Also in her practice at Promontory, Schapiro is advising clients on risk management, drawing on her extensive knowledge from her deep regulatory experience in government as well as on her service on the boards of directors of major American corporations such as Kraft Foods and Duke Energy.

She is based in Promontory’s Washington, D.C., office.

Promontory specializes in solving regulatory, risk, compliance and governance issues for investment firms.

Ms. Schapiro was SEC chairman from 2009 to 2012. She was the first woman to serve as SEC chairman and the only person to have served as chairman of both the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
