Ramius Adds Head of Quant Trading

Ramius, the alternative investment management arm of Cowen Group, announced on Tuesday that Eric Greenhut has joined as a managing director and head of quantitative trading.

The firm’s quant trading platform was developed in-house and has been deploying proprietary capital since early 2010.

In the newly created position of head of quantitative trading, Greenhut will be responsible for the management and development of the group, including the ongoing search for quant traders, researchers and programmers.  He will report to Thomas Strauss, president and chief executive officer of Ramius.

“Over the last two years, this platform has been generating superior results for Ramius’ own proprietary trading activities,” Straus said in a statement. “As a result, we intend to grow the group substantially, both to enhance returns on our proprietary capital and to develop systematic trading products that will meet the ever evolving needs of our clients.”

Greenhut, a 16-year veteran, previously served as managing member of quantitative trading firm Hut Trading. Prior to that, he was a director of research at BNP Paribas/Cooper Neff.

Founded in 1994, Ramius and its affiliates manage about $10.3 billion across multiple asset classes.  The firm is headquartered in New York with offices located in London, Tokyo, Luxembourg and Munich.
