Jack Hughes joined Compass Point Research & Trading as a managing director and opened a Philadelphia office for the Washington, D.C.-based firm. Hughes, with more than 30 years’ experience, spent most of his career at Janney Montgomery Scott as head of trading and capital markets. He is overseeing the expansion of the new office and is looking to build Compass Point’s research sales force, with an eye toward building a trading desk. Hughes reports to Scott Dreyer, CEO and head trader at Compass Point, whichspecializes in underfollowed companies.
Jeff Wecker joined Lime Brokerage as president and chief executive. He was previously chief executive at Townsend Analytics, a Lehman Brothers unit. He ran electronic trading at Lehman before that. At Lime, he replaces Alistair Brown, Lime’s founder and the CEO. Brown remains at Lime as chairman of the company.
Judith Robertson was named president and chief executive officer of brokerage and technology shop Belzberg Technologies, replacing co-founder Sidney Belzberg. Robertson was previously president and CEO of Markets Inc., which launched BlockBook, one of the first alternative markets in Canada. She was also an executive vice president responsible for product development and strategic initiatives at Perimeter Financial. Sidney Belzberg, who founded the firm with his wife in 1993, remains as a director of the company.
Thomas Parlon joined Stanford Group Company as a senior vice president and sales trader in Boston. Parlon joins a team of three salespersons and two sales traders who handle customers in New England and the Northeast. He previously spent eight years at Wachovia Securities, most recently as vice president, institutional sales trading. Before that, he was an officer in the Boston Police Department for six years.
Greg Tusar became a partner at Goldman Sachs last year. He is one of 94 to be named partners in 2008. Tusar is a managing director and head of North American electronic trading. He has been with Goldman since the firm’s acquisition of Spear, Leeds & Kellogg in 2000.
John Rendinaro has joined Evercore Wealth Management as head of trading and operations. Rendinaro, longtime director of trading at U.S. Trust, is a founding partner of Evercore, a new firm launched by Jeffrey Maurer, the former chairman and CEO of U.S. Trust.
Jamie Bogen joins Bloomberg TradeBook as an equity trading product specialist. Bogen was previously director of trading at Bear Stearns Asset Management, where she spent 20 years. In her current position, Bogen will work with buyside clients and TradeBook’s trading desk, as well as with its marketing and product development teams. Bogen was also a featured speaker in September at Traders Magazine Live, this publication’s annual institutional trading conference.
Terry McCabe joined Piper Jaffray & Co. as a managing director and co-manager, with Dan Flanigan, of New York equity sales trading. McCabe, a 20-year veteran, joins from Bear Stearns & Co., where he was a senior managing director. There, he led a team of more than 30 traders that covered around 800 accounts before he returned to focusing on sales.
Arthur Pacheco joins Rasameel Structured Finance as a consultant and U.S. representative for the Kuwaiti investment firm. Pacheco, based in South Florida, is an equities veteran of more than 40 years. He is developing a global trading platform for new financing vehicles developed by Rasameel. Pacheco is chairman of the National Organization of Investment Professionals, and a past chairman of both the Security Traders Association and its New York affiliate, STANY.
Saratoga Capital, a New York-based agency broker and prime-services provider, hired four sales traders in New York. They are: Andrew Irving, an eight-year veteran formerly with Miller Tabak + Co., who covers accounts for both equities and options; Paul Boogaert, a 15-year veteran formerly with Link Securities, specializing in risk arbitrage; Tod Dodge, a 25-year veteran, who spent the last four years in private equity after sales trading stints at Hambrecht & Quist and CS First Boston; and Alec Levine, a 14-year veteran formerly with EBS/Belzberg, who joins as an options sales trader.
BTIG added two sales traders to its New York office. Jerry Filippini joins BTIG as a senior vice president and senior sales trader. Filippini-with more than 15 years’ experience, including stints at Goldman Sachs and Spear, Leeds & Kellogg- came from UBS. Ari Perlman, who joins from Citi, has specialized in covering U.S. accounts that trade international stocks. At BTIG, Perlman will cover U.S. clients for both domestic and international stocks.
