Charles L. Glazer, president and CEO of Greenwich, Conn.-based brokerage firm C.L. Glazer & Co., begins his post as ambassador to El Salvador this month. Glazer, a major fundraiser for the Republican party, is also a member of the Republican National Committee. Glazer was appointed to the post last year by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The Benchmark Company, a New York-based brokerage firm, recently added three new sales traders: Dolores Barrett, Michael Naidrich and Vanessa Light. Barrett, previously with Avondale, and Naidrich, previously with Moors & Cabot, cover accounts from the firm’s Princeton office. Light, previously with Tradition Asiel, joins Benchmark’s New York office.
MKM Partners, a Greenwich, Conn.-based agency brokerage, recently opened an office in Cleveland with three sales traders. The firm also added another sales trader at its headquarters. The new hires in Cleveland are John F. O’Brien, Chris De Cicco and Jeff Samilson. The three were previously with KeyBanc Capital Markets. Brian Cassin, previously with E*Trade Institutional, joins the Greenwich office.
Pali Capital, New York, opened a Boston office last month and hired five sales traders (See story on page 26). All report to Dennis Leddy, who heads the office. The new hires, all senior vice presidents, include Theresa Mulshine, a 15-year veteran from Credit Suisse; Joe Deveny, former managing partner at the hedge fund Abington Capital; John McDonald, formerly of WR Hambrecht; and Kevin McCarthy and Mark Guarente, both joining from BNY Brokerage. Guarente is a former trader at Thomas Weisel Asset Management.
Gary Cuiper joined Nollenberger Capital Partners in San Francisco as a senior sales trader. Cuiper was most recently with Soleil Securities and had previously headed sales trading at Volpe, Brown & Whelan. He reports to Todd Clark, director of trading.
Debbie O’Brien recently joined Firefly Capital in Boston as a vice president in sales. Before going to Firefly, a brokerage that offers an execution management system, O’Brien spent 11 years as a senior trader at Allstate Investments in Northbrook, Ill. Prior to Allstate, she spent 15 years on the sellside as a sales trader.
Tom Kane, an electronic trading sales veteran, joined NYFIX as a senior vice president in sales at the firm’s new Boston office at 60 State Street. Kane, previously with Tradeware, is focused on selling NYFIX’s crossing network, Millennium, and FIX connectivity.
Jeff Alexander recently joined Bloomberg and was hired to work in the firm’s product area, which includes trading systems, applications and execution management. Alexander, a Chartered Financial Analyst, previously spent seven year at Credit Suisse Asset Management as director and head of equity trading technology. He reports to Don Carey.
Lava Trading announced two hires. The trading systems vendor group, a unit of Citigroup, hired Matthew Weiss and Robert Williamson from the NYSE Group and vendor AFA, respectively. At Lava, both execs will have the title of vice president of sellside equities sales.
Andrew Winner joined Instinet as chief software architect for transaction cost analysis. Winner will lead the development of Instinet’s pre-and post-trade analytics tools that support Instinet’s Newport portfolio trading platform. Winner was previously with Winner Squared, a firm he co-founded in 1977.
