Mock Joins JonesTrading

A look at the financial industry's prominent hires, promotions and other notable happenings inside Wall Street's trading community.

Brett Mock joined JonesTrading, a brokerage that specializes in executing block trades. Mock, a 19 year veteran, came on board at the firm’s San Francisco office as a managing director and will serve in bolstering its client relationship business in the Pacific Northwest. He brings a breadth and depth of diversified experience and expertise in all aspects of trading, market structure and other key industry areas. Prior to JonesTrading, he was a managing director at BTIG. Previous to that, he was director, capital markets, equity trading at Wachovia Securities and principal, Nasdaq sales and trading, at Bank of America Securities. He has also done stints at Montgomery Securities and Spear, Leeds & Kellogg and served as president of the Security Traders Association for 2010. He reports to chief executive Packy Jones.

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. appointed Paula Sausville Arthus as president and CEO of its Omgeo unit, succeeding Marianne Brown. Arthus joined DTCC in 2005 and was most recently managing director, chief of staff and head of enterprise planning at DTCC. Brown had been with Omgeo for the past seven years

Brian Suth was appointed an advisory board member at Quantitative Management Group LLC. Suth is also managing director, head of electronic trading, at ISI Group in New York. Previously, Suth worked as a managing director and co-head of global electronic trading at RBC Capital Markets. He also spent three years at Merrill Lynch as a director in global electronic trading sales.

Brown Brothers Harriman named Michael McGovern as a managing director and its chief information officer and head of systems. McGovern, a 26-year pro, will be responsible for the management and leadership of the firm’s technology strategy, application development and systems infrastructure across all business lines. Prior to this, he was managing director and global technology head of securities and fund services at Citi Transaction Services. He also did stints at Chase Manhattan Bank and Chemical Bank. Based in New York, he reports to BBH partner and global head of technology Taylor Bodman.

Omega Securities, operators of Omega ATS and Lynx ATS, appointed Sean Debotte as president and chief executive of Lynx ATS. Debotte, a Canadian veteran with 12 years of industry experience, joined Omega as director of business development in 2011. Debotte was also an options strategist and prop trader at Infinium Capital Group. Before that, he was an equities sales trader at Swift Trade Securities Ltd. He reports to Omega’s board of directors.

John Eley was appointed chief executive officer at GoldenSource, a provider of enterprise data management solutions. Elay, a market veteran with more than 25 years of experience, will assume responsibility for all aspects of GoldenSource’s business. Prior to this appointment, he served as president and chief executive of Pivot Inc. and of Hotspot FX.

GoldenSource also announced that Mike Meriton, the firm’s previous chief executive, has been appointed to the position of vice chairman. Meriton, who has more than 10 years’ experience in data management, will be charged with growing the firm’s long-term strategic growth opportunities, including powering shared service global data utilities, strategic partnerships and alternate sales channels. He helped create the EDM Council in 2005.

Ellyn Coyne joined KCG Group as a senior ETF sales representative. Coyne, a pro with more than 20 years of experience in ETFs, equities and futures, will help grow the firm’s client base, educate clients about KCG ETF trading capabilities, and market to RIAs, asset managers and pension funds. She comes from Cantor Fitzgerald, where she spent the last two years as director of ETF sales overseeing client relations and sales efforts. She reports to Chris Hempstead, head of ETF sales for KCG in the U.S.

WallachBeth hired Thejas Nalval as director, ETF and portfolio strategy. Nalval, a 10-year vet, comes from J.P. Morgan, where he spent the spent the last six months. Prior to that, Nalval was with Goldman Sachs for nine years as a vice president, in the firm’s macro trading group. At Goldman he focused on block trading of single stocks, programs, ETFs and synthetics. He also helped clients formulate portfolio strategies and implemented related execution strategies with focus on identifying market dislocations and reducing pricing slippage. He reports to chief executive Michael Wallach.

SunGard Financial Systems hired Marianne Brown as its chief operating officer. Brown, a market pro with more than 25 years’ experience, came from Omgeo, where spent the last eight years as president and CEO. Prior to that, she was president at the Securities Industry Automation Corp. and served at ADP Brokerage Services Group, now Broadridge Financial, as a general manager.

J.J. Allingham joined KCG as a managing director on the electronic trading sales team. Allingham, a 20-year pro, will be responsible for both buyside and sellside clients. He comes from Wells Fargo Securities, where over the last two years was responsible for electronic sales to broker-dealers and hedge funds. Prior to that, he worked at Goldman Sachs, where he was head of broker-dealer and Sigma X ATS sales. He also worked at Portware and NYFIX and was a Nasdaq market maker and proprietary trader. Based in New Jersey, he reports to Steve Kay, head of sellside sales, and Chris Amorello, head of institutional electronic sales.

R.J. O’Brien & Associates appointed Kevin Hall as managing director, sales and head of the firm’s New York office. Hall, a financial pro with more than three decades in trading, spent most of the last 30 years in increasingly senior roles at large financial services firms, beginning his career in 1984 at investment bank Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co. He joined Refco Inc. in 1986 and was named vice president, responsible for a financial risk management sales group focusing on corporate and institutional clients with multiple risk exposures in commodities and financials. In 1999, he established Hadrian Partners, a commodity trading advisor. Hall also became senior vice president, institutional and managed futures services, at MF Global in 2005 when that firm took over Refco’s business lines. He reports to Mark Sachs, RJO senior managing director, sales and marketing.

Nick Savona joined Global Maxfin Capital, a Toronto-based full-service investment broker-dealer. Savona, a 23-year veteran, will be on the institutional sales desk and will launch a business handling employee stock option exercises and buybacks for public and private issuers. He has worked at TD Securities Inc., ITG Canada, Northland Capital Partners and Liquidnet, as well as being active in the Securities Traders’ Association and serving as a member of the hearing committee for the industry’s self-regulatory body.

Wall Street Horizon hired Joseph Ranieri as director of client management. Ranieri, with more than 20 years’ experience as an equities trader, was head of U.S. equity trading for Canaccord Adams (now Canaccord Genuity). At Wall Street Horizon, he will be responsible for client support and product customization.

Marker maker Alternative Execution Group has opened a New York City office and hired William Assatly and Marilyn Pianelli to run the desk. Joining Assatly and Pianelli to run the desk is chief executive Richard Alter. The three previously ran the trading and sales desks of Mercator Associates’ New York office.
