‘Hedge Funds Care’ Raises $650,000 for Kids

The Midwest chapter of the Hedge Funds Care charity raised over $650,000 during its annual ‘Open Your Heart to the Children’ benefit this year. The funds go to provide support for local charities that prevent and treat child abuse.

Now in its eleventh year, the Hedge Funds Care gala brought together over 450 members of the hedge fund, proprietary trading, private equity, and venture capital communities. The event was held at Chicago’s Untitled restaurant in late May.

Wesley Nissen of DLA Piper and Benji Wolken of Ernst & Young served as this year’s Committee of Hearts co-chairs. Steve Mendes of TJM Investments; Emily Deter of RiverNorth Capital Management, LLC; Greg Schweider of Big Rock LLC; and Camille Clemons of UMB Fund Services headed this year’s Benefit Committee.

“This incredible evening brought together leaders of the Chicago financial community in support of a common charitable cause, which is to empower programs that actively prevent and treat child abuse,” said Committee co-chair Benji Wolken.

The event is the primary fund raising effort for Hedge Funds Care’s Midwest chapter. Grantees include the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council, Casa Central Social Service, the Chicago Child Care Society, and many others.

The Chicago chapter is one of many in this international charity dedicated to funding programs focused on preventing and treating child abuse. Since its inception in 1998, Hedge Funds Care has awarded over 900 grants totaling $32 million. Hedge Funds Care is the only grant making public charity that focuses exclusively on funding this cause.
