BATS Hires NYSE Alumni Morrison to Spearhead ETF Effort

BATS Global Markets just beefed up its exchange trade funds (ETF) business, luring an NYSE executive to join its business.

BATS announced that Laura Morrison came onboard as a senior Vice president, global head of exchange-traded products, where she will continue the bourse’s push into the global ETF market. She will report to Bryan Harkins.

She will be located in the company’s lower Manhattan office.

Morrison, a 20 year veteran, spent her entire career at NYSE. Over the last eight years, she served as a senior vice president, global index and exchange-traded products, leading the team which managed ETF listings and trading as well as the NYSE index business.

“We’ve long held Laura in high esteem as a thought leader and we are excited she’s joining the team with the mission of making BATS the #1 global ETF listings marketplace,” said Bryan Harkins, executive vice president and head of U.S. markets, in a statement.

During her tenure at NYSE, Morrison emerged as a market leader by building a strong team that consistently achieved industry-leading results. She played a leading role in bringing new and innovative ETF products to market while launching key market quality programs and, as a senior executive, grew the company’s ETF issuer base to record numbers.

Previously at NYSE, Morrison held senior-level positions as managing director, NYSE member firm sales, and Managing Director, NYSE global listings group. She began her career at Barnett Bank in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and also spent two years as a specialist on the NYSE floor at CMJ Partners L.P.

In March, BATS had a trading market share of 25.2% compared with 20.9% at NYSE and 14.9% at Nasdaq in ETFs.
