Weeden Names Upward as Head of Market Structure, Forms New Consultation Group

Weeden has named a new executive to head up its Market Structure Group and formed a new execution consultation group.

The Greenwich, Connecticut-based institutional brokerage announced that Andrew Upward has joined the company as its Head of Market Structure. In this new role, Upward will focus on market structure issues along with providing insight on industry developments to Weeden & Co., and its clients. He will be based in the firm’s Connecticut headquarters.

“We continue to work closely with our clients in navigating the complexities and idiosyncrasies of today’s market structure. Andrew’s knowledge, industry relationships and insights will further strengthen our client relationships,” said Lance Lonergan, chief executive officer at Weeden & Co.

Upward, a 12 year veteran, joined Weeden from Rosenblatt Securities where he was a Market Structure Analyst. Prior to that, he was a market structure analyst and macro strategist at Fidelity Capital Markets for four years. He has also done stints as a sales trader at Midwood Securities and Harborside Securities.

Along with Upward’s hiring, Weeden also announced the formation of a new Execution Consulting Group (ECG). This group’s focus will be on educating clients about the ever-changing market structure and regulatory landscape. The Execution Consulting Group will also partner with clients to evaluate their trading processes, and provide advice as to how to ensure that best execution mandates are being met in an increasingly complex market place.
