TRADERS ON THE MOVE: Northwoods Alumni Launch Navy Capital, Cantor and JPM Lose Equities Pros

Sean Stiefel and Mark Dorneanu have launched Navy Capital, a new hedge fund designed as a new value oriented and opportunistic long/short investment vehicle. Stiefel manages a long/short portfolio structured to minimize beta to the overall market by using bottom-up and fundamental analysis. Prior to founding Navy Capital, Stiefel was a research analyst and trader for Northwoods Capital Management Partners, a global long/short fund with a fundamental value and special situations investment strategy. Before that, Stiefel had previously served as an associate within an equity long/short fund at Millennium Partners, and he began his career as an equities trading analyst for Barclays Capital.

Dorneanu most recently served as an investment analyst with Northwoods Capital Management, a global long/short fund with a fundamental value and special situations investment strategy. Priot to that, he was with Marathon Partners, L.P., a concentrated long/short fund with a fundamental value and special situations investment strategy, as an investment analyst. He began his financial career as a financial analyst in Citigroups Investing Banking division, where he focused primarily on the private equity, real estate and lodging industries.

Jarred Kessler, a managing director who oversaw U.S. equities at Cantor Fitzgerald LP, resigned from the firm to pursue a significant opportunity, according to his lawyer.Following his departure earlier this week, Kesslers responsibilities will be handled by members of Cantor Fitzgeralds executive management for equities Adam Mattessich, Darren Taube, and Peter Cecchini. Kessler joined inJanuary 2011 as part of a push to transform the company from a bond broker into a full-service investment bank. Kessler, who joined from Credit Suisse Group AG, previously held roles with Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

Clearing group LCH.Clearnet has appointed former JP Morgan director Willem Mooijer as its new equities director and head of cash markets development.The appointment comes as the larger clearing houses seek to bolster their talent pools ahead of 2016 as they look to increasingly offer direct access to buy-siders.Most recently Mooijerwas executive director for securities clearing with responsibility for European clearing, settlement and regulatory strategy – a role he took up in April 2014. Prior to that he worked at JP Morgan as a consultant.In addition to his director role, Mooijer will also head up operations in Amsterdam.

Former co-head of futures at Wedbush Futures Carl Gilmorelaunched his own consultancy, Integritas Financial Consulting, to support derivatives clients in meeting evolving regulatory and compliance requirements.Gilmore left Wedbush last month after he joined with the KCG acquisition in 2014.

Securities and Exchange Daniel Gallagher has been named president of Patomak Global Partners, a Washington-based consulting firm established after the financial crisis to help companies navigate the new regulatory maze. Gallagher, who was a staunch critic of the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulatory overhaul, will work alongside a stable of former colleagues, including Paul Atkins, the firms chief executive, who also previously served as a commissioner at the top U.S. markets regulator.
