TRADERS ON THE MOVE: Nomura Execs End Up at Instinet, Cowen, Elsewhere

A large number of Nomura Securities International traders and trading executives are landing on their feet at a variety of Wall Street shops, after the big Japanese brokerage shuttered its cash, program and electronic trading desks in September.

The decision put about 100 individuals out of work.

About three dozen have moved to sister company Instinet, the institutional, electronic agency broker, market participants close to the firm tell Traders Magazine. The hires at Instinet include Tom Terzulli, who traded consumer stocks at Nomura; Kevin Brady, who was a managing director, liquid markets, at Nomura; Mark Govoni, in program trading sales at Nomura; and Joseph Mezrich, Nomura’s head of quantitative strategy.

Former Nomura staffers that have landed positions with other shops include Scott Bauer, who joined Cowen & Co. as head of program sales and trading. Bauer was previously a director of electronic sales and trading at Nomura Securities. Kevin Kilgallen, who traded technology stocks at Nomura, joined Wells Fargo Securities. Richard Conti joined Oppenheimer & Co. Conti was formerly head of electronic sales trading at Nomura Securities.

Bart Barnett joined U.S. Capital Advisors in Houston as a managing director and senior trader in the firm’s institutional client group. Barnett was previously head of listed trading at Morgan Keegan, where he spent 10 years. Before that, he worked for Scott & Stringfellow.

Paul Jiganti moved to TD Ameritrade to head market structure strategy and exchange issues.. Jiganti previously worked for Nasdaq OMX Group in the development of an index options product. Before that he spent 16 years at Susquehanna International Group as an options trader and manager. Jiganti is based in Chicago and has worked closely with the Chicago Board Options Exchange on trading issues and systems. He fills a post left vacant since the departure of Chris Nagy, who founded KOR Trading in Omaha, last year.

Pascale Bandeliere returned to Barclays Capital, after a year-and-a-half at Morgan Stanley, and a short stint as co-head of U.S. equity trading at Nomura Securities International. At Barclays, Bandeliere is a director in the U.S. cash equity trading group, reporting to Eric Johnston, head of the group, according to a Barclays spokesperson.

Michael Ingrassia joined Macquarie Capital as a sales trader. He was previously a sales trader with Knight, where he worked for about 10 years.

Jason Griffith joined Sanford C. Bernstein as the new global head of trading. He was previously at Jefferies & Co., where he spent 6 years. There he was global head of equities, responsible for overseeing cash and electronic trading, equity derivatives, convertibles, and prime brokerage, as well as sales and research. Prior to Jefferies, Griffith was the global head of the hedge fund investors group and equity-linked solutions at Banc of America, and later at Societe Generale.
