TRADERS ON THE MOVE: JonesTrading Gets a New CEO, Themis Hires Two Traders

Block trading firm JonesTrading announced Alan Hill is the firm’s new chief executive officer. William “Packy” Jones, the former Chief executive, will now serve as the firm’s executive chairman.

Hill joined JonesTrading in July 2006 as its chief financial officer. He is charged with responsibility to manage its $50 million private placement and for the firm’s continued organic growth in current operations as well as setting the ongoing strategic agenda and initiatives.

Prior to JonesTrading, Hill was vice president of finance at Korn/Ferry International where he had day-to-day responsibility over the company’s finance, tax and accounting operations across 35 countries, in addition to SEC public financial reporting and Corporate Development roles. He has also served as vice president of finance at Jefferies and senior director of finance at Guidance Solutions, a privately held consulting firm.

Mark Kepner joined agency-only brokerage Themis Trading as a managing director, sales and trading. Kepner, an equity trading veteran with over 20 years of Wall Street experience, will work with expanding the firm’s client base and promoting the market structure reform. He was most recently a senior member of the institutional sales trading desk at Instinet, LLC. Prior to Instinet, he was with Bear Stearns Asset Management in institutional sales and marketing.

Themis also promoted John Connell to the position of administrator and sales trading assistant. Connell was previously a part-time employee and intern with the Chatham, N.J.-based brokerage.

The North American Derivatives Exchange (Nadex) appointed Donald Horwitz as general counsel and chief regulatory officer. Based in Chicago, Horwitz is responsible for providing counsel and guidance on all regulatory and legal matters within the exchange and also is a member of the senior management team. Horwitz, a veteran of the legal world for more than 35 years, joins Nadex from the Intellectual Property Exchange International, where he served as a managing director and general counsel. He has also worked as managing director, general counsel and chief regulatory officer at OneChicago. He alsop has financial markets experience, doing stunts at Securities and Exchange Commission, Merrill Lynch, BrokerTec Futures Exchange, The Options Clearing Corporation and ABN Amro. He reports to Timothy McDermott, the exchange’s chief executive.

FNEX, an alternative investments market, hired Carissa Newton as its chief marketing officer. Newton, a ppro with over 20 years of marketing experience, will lead all strategic marketing efforts at FNEX beginning with the company’s national marketing and advertising campaign. She joins from Oak Street Funding where she was chief marketing officer. She has also held positions at Delivra, Vontoo, Hufford Financial Partners and American United Life. She reports to chief executive Todd Ryden.
