TRADERS ON THE MOVE: Euronext Lures New ETF Head, SEC Alum Goes to Sidley

Benjamin Fussien was hired by Euronext NV, the newly independent European market operator, as its head of exchange-traded and investment funds. Fussien, a 7 year professional, will be responsible for growing and running its exchange-traded funds business. He recently did stints at Carax as an institutional salesman in its equity and derivatives business. Before that he was at Societe Generale SA, where he was a managing director and head of its Delta1 and flow derivatives sales trading desk. During his six years at SocGen, he helped build its ETF trading business and ran the firm’s French ETF and program trading desk.

Sidley Austin has named former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission General Counsel Geoffrey Aronow as a partner in the firm’s global Securities & Derivatives Enforcement and Regulatory practice. He will focus his practice on advising clients on SEC and CFTC enforcement matters and representing them before various federal agencies including the SEC, CFTC and other federal financial regulatory agencies, as well as advising on international regulatory matters. At SEC, Aronow served as the chief legal officer of the Commission and headed the Office of the General Counsel, which provides legal advice and counseling concerning the federal securities laws, administrative laws, and other laws to the Commission. During his tenure at the SEC, Mr. Aronow also held the role of senior counsel to Chair Mary Jo White. Previously, he served as CFTC director of enforcement. Aronow will be based out of the firm’s Washington, D.C. and New York Offices.

Legal & General Investment Management America (LGIMA), a Chicago-based SEC-registered investment advisor, hired two executives from Legal & General Investment Management in the U.K. for its index team. First, Drew Miyawaki comes aboard as its head of global equity trading. Also coming to Chicago is Aodhagan Byrne, as index portfolio manager. The move is designed to bring LGIM’s strong index knowledge to the U.S. and its clients.

In his role, Miyawaki will oversee equities trading and be directly responsible for execution of all North American equities. He joined LGIM in December 2011 from Knight Capital where he held the title of Director of Global Program Trading. Prior to that, he was the head of international trading at Liquidnet, where he helped build the electronic trade offering of the global crossing network. He started his career in 2000, when he worked in numerous trading capacities in algorithmic and program trading at US broker/dealer Jefferies.

Byrne will manage North American Index strategies at LGIMA. Byrne joined the LGIM Index Funds team in February 2012. Previously, he spent seven years as an index fund manager with Irish Life Investment Managers. Based in Dublin, he managed both equity and fixed income funds.
Both report locally to Chad Rakvin working alongside Shaun Murphy, director of index funds.
