TRADERS ON THE MOVE: Citi Grabs Ciampolini for Block Business

Giacomo Ciampolini, the head of European block trades at Goldman Sachs, is leaving to join Citigroup, according to an internal Citigroup memo. Ciampolini will be head of equity capital markets in Italy for Citigroup as well as responsible for European blocks along with Suneel Hargunani, according to the memo, whose contents were confirmed by a spokeswoman.Ciampolini, who has 18 years of capital markets experience at Goldman Sachs, will join Citigroup in December and be based in London, the memo said.

This follows Citi hiring Valery Barrier, a Deutsche Bank AG managing director in France, back in July.

SEC Commissioner Daniel Gallagher, who had previously announced earlier this year that he’d be leaving the regulator, said last Friday that his departure will be before October 2. Gallagher, who joined the commission in 2011, pushed to make it easier for small companies to raise capital and advocated for the agency to undertake a major review of the rules governing stock exchanges.

BCS Global Markets has appointed Adam Wood as Director in its Prime Appoints Director, Prime Brokerage Sales business. Located in London, Wood will work to maintain and establish strong relationships with high frequency traders, proprietary trading firms specializing in arbitrage and major hedge funds across accounts in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and United States. Prior to joining BCS, he worked as a relationship manager at ABN AMRO Clearing Bank, where he was responsible for business development and sales with buy-side and proprietary trading firms across global accounts. Before that, Wood worked at the London Stock Exchange, responsible for business development, account management and client relationships within the Equities & Derivatives secondary markets team. He reports to Max Hayden, Head of BCS Prime Brokerage in London.

Quintin Price, a portfolio manager at BlackRock who oversees the firm’s $944 billion fundamental active stock and bond investments as head of its alpha strategies business, announced his plans to retire. Price, who is 54, will return to London where he will remain a senior adviser for BlackRock through next summer, according to an internal BlackRock memo.

Foreign Exchange settlement service provider CLS has hired Joe Ziccarelli as its head of relationship management for the Americas. Ziccarelli, a pro with over 20 years of experience, will lead a New-York based team and develop CLS’s relationship management strategy for the region, with particular emphasis on participation expansion and deepening relationships with settlement members. . Most recently, Ziccarelli was chief operating officer for global FX markets at Jefferies. Prior to that, he held a number of senior FX roles, including COO for Global FX at Bank of America and COO for FX and Global Metals Sales and Trading at HSBC. He reports to John Hagon, head of global operations and relationship management.
