Traders On The Move

Nomura Securities International made two key hires in electronic trading from Deutsche Bank.
Matthew Weitz joined Nomura as head of its electronic sales. Weitz, a 15-year veteran, will lead the U.S. sales effort for the firm’s suite of electronic equity products, including its algorithms, crossing network, analytics platform and its low-latency products for market access and order routing. Weitz will be based in New York and report to Kevin Brady, Nomura’s head of program, electronic, ETF and quantitative advisory sales. Previously, Weitz headed Autobahn Equity Trading for the Americas at Deutsche Bank, where he was responsible for the distribution and electronic sales trading for the firm’s electronic products in the U.S.
Richard Conti also joined Nomura as head of electronic sales trading. He will lead the group as it provides coverage, execution consultancy and service to both algorithmic and high-frequency trading clients. Conti will also be based in New York, reporting to Weitz. At Deutsche Bank, he worked for the previous four years in the same capacity.

 


 

Thomas O’Mara joined Cowen Group as head of equity derivatives and convertibles. There his mandate is to expand the firm’s equity derivative capabilities and building out a presence in the convertible market. O’Mara reports to John O’Donoghue, head of equities. O’Mara spent over 14 years at Credit Suisse First Boston where he held a number of senior positions including global head of convertible securities, global head of cash equities and global chief risk officer for the equities division. Prior to Credit Suisse First Boston, O’Mara spent five years at Lehman Brothers in the convertible securities group. He’s also spent time on the buyside, including managing multi-strategy assets in a hedge fund structure.

 


 

Andrew Tuthill joined agency brokerage JonesTrading as managing director, head of its capital markets group and a member of the executive committee. He leads the capital markets group’s efforts to provide liquidity to the corporate and private equity communities and to underwrite secondary offerings. A veteran with 17 years of experience in investment banking, trading and equity capital markets, Tuthill was most recently a managing director, head of special situations for the equity capital markets group at Thomas Weisel Partners. He also served as a managing director with the ECM team at UBS. Tuthill is based in San Francisco and reports to JonesTrading chairman and chief executive Packy Jones.

 


 

Agency brokers OTR Global expanded its trading presence beyond New York and into Boston with two hires. 
Christopher Horan joins OTR as an institutional trader. Previously, he worked at Echobridge Capital as a senior analyst. A 15-year veteran, Horan was an equity trader with Fidelity Investments prior to his time at Echobridge. Graham Morrell also joined as an institutional trader. A 10-year pro, Morrell held the same position at Canaccord Adams, covering the financial, REITs and lodging sectors. In addition, institutional sales rep Dominic Lamanuzzi relocated to Boston from the New York office. He joins salesmen Brian Coakley and Mike Hanley, who’ve been with OTR for several years covering the Boston institutional investment community.

 


 

Inter-dealer brokers Tullett Prebon launched a risk arbitrage desk in its Jersey City, N.J. office. Philippe Allain will lead the desk, reporting to Tom Bovitz, senior managing director of equities. Prior to Tullett Prebon, Allain was head of risk arbitrage sales at Newedge Group. Joining Allain are Mourad Jridi, director, also formerly of Newedge; Yemi Oshodi, managing director, from Ramius Capital Group; and Rudy Sanchez, senior vice president, from Latam Investments.

 


 

James Ross, a senior managing director in State Street Global Advisors’ exchange-traded funds business, joined the Investment Company Institute as chairman of its ETF Committee. There, Ross will provide the committee and ICI members with legal, research, governmental affairs, communications and operations support. He succeeds outgoing ETF committee chairman Bruce Bond, chairman and founder of Invesco PowerShares.
