On The Move: Expanding Debt Team, Cantor Hires Pair From Cowen

Cantor Fitzgerald is broadening its leveraged-finance team with the addition of two trading professional from Cowen & Co. Kevin Reynolds and Timothy Swift will spearhead a team that would attract and manage new debt deals.

Reynolds will join Cantor as a managing director. Swift will be a director.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the new Cantor employees have a clear mission. The pair focused on middle-market debt financing at Cowen and will have a similar role leading Cantors debt capital markets origination group, according to Shawn Matthews, chief executive officer of the firms brokerage unit. The team will also establish a liability management business across fixed income, according to the report.

We are aggressively moving into leveraged finance, especially with the distressed cycle emerging, Matthews said in an interview. We will be hiring many more in the space.

During his time at Cowen, Reynolds served as co-head of debt capital markets and as the firms head of Global Capital Markets. Prior to Cowen, Reynolds served inside Gleacher & Co. and worked for UBS Group for 12 years. Swift previously worked at CRT Capital Group and RW Pressprich & Co.
