      Machine-Readable News Goes Social

Thomson Reuters is adding a social media sentiment analysis to its machine-readable news product. The new service provides information from 50,000 news sites and four million social media sites.

The added capability mines social media and blog content to deliver analytics on selected companies and sectors.

Social media sites analyzed by the system include everything from travel blogs to small-cap investor forums. The service does not gather information from Facebook or Twitter.

According to Aite Group, 35 percent of quant firms are now using some kind of machine-readable newsfeed.
