ON THE MOVE: Schubkegel Named CTO at Akuna Capital

Josh Schubkegel is the new Chief Technology Officer at Akuna Capital, a firm with offices in Chicago and Sydney. Schubkegel is no stranger to the equities markets with his 18 years of market experience, beginning with nine years at UBS back in 2002 s its Global Head of Equities Client Technology. From there, he joined Goldman Sachs and its REDI technology group which subsequently was spun off in mid-2013 and saw him named Founder and Chief Technology Officer. Schubkegel then moved to Virtu Financial and then his most recent posting as Chief Technology Officer at Sandia Point in Chicago.

PFM, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based asset manager with $152.6 billion in total assets under management and advisement  snagged Christi Fletcher as a Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager. She will be based in the firm’s Harrisburg office and is charged with managing cash and short-duration separate accounts.

“PFM is a firm that is extremely attentive to its clients’ needs, and that quality is what initially drew me to the organization,” Fletcher said. “It is also a company that is very family-oriented and where everyone’s voice and opinions are valued, which made the decision to join PFM quite easy.”

She will also serve as a member of the credit committee.

Fletcher, a veteran with 20 years of portfolio manager and credit experience most recently worked as  Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager at First Trust Advisors where, among other responsibilities, she helped managed a $4.8 billion enhanced cash fixed income ETF. Prior to that, she worked at Northern Trust, serving as lead portfolio manager for its Ultra Short Fixed Income Fund and also as lead investment grade corporate bond trader for several Northern Trust funds and separate accounts.

Marty Margolis, Managing Director and PFM founder, told Traders Magazine that her addition will help the firm continue its growth and performance. “She will also expand our credit research and trading capabilities, managing investment grade corporate bonds.”

Virtu Financial appointed Brett Fairclough and Joseph Molluso as Co-Presidents and Co-Chief Operating Officers. Molluso re-joins Virtu after a brief stint as Chief Financial Officer at CAPITOLIS. Before that, he was with JP Morgan for almost eight years. Fairclough was promoted to COO and global head of business development at Virtu in September 2019. He has been with the firm since 2007, leading the Asia Pacific operations between 2014-2019 and was the chief compliance officer of Virtu’s broker-dealer subsidiaries from 2012-2014.

“Since assuming his expanded role last year, Brett has excelled in applying his market knowledge and expertise in driving results at Virtu,” Doug Cifu, CEO of Virtu Financial, said in a statement.

Florence Pourchet, BNP Paribas

BNP Paribas added Florence Pourchet as Head of CIB Latin America. In this new role, she will help drive BNP Paribas’ Latin America strategy, as well as provide oversight and support to the various countries in the region where the bank has a presence. Pourchet has been with the firm for three decades, holding a cornucopia of banking and credit roles across France, Germany and the US, and was most recently appointed Head of CIB Hispanic Latam in 2019, in addition to Head of Credit and Portfolio Management and Head of CSR for the Americas. Pourchet will retain her responsibilities as Head of CSR for the Americas, advising Herve Duteil, BNP Paribas Americas Chief Sustainability Officer, as the bank continues to build out its leadership position in Sustainable Finance.

Latin America is an essential part of the Americas strategy, and I look forward to working with each market and business line to develop solutions and opportunities for our clients both locally in the region, and beyond,” Pourchet said in an emailed statement to Traders Magazine.

TORA has landed two trading pros – Mark Mazor and Joe Zonenshine – for the firm’s global outsourced trading team. Mazor has more than 15 years experience as a trader, working as a Global Execution Trader for Partner Fund Management and Balyasny Asset Management. He started his career at Morgan Stanley in New York. Zonenshine spent 16 years trading at Aristeia Capital and Blackwells Capital. Before that he worked as investment banking analyst at Lehman Brothers in New York.

Impact Partners Consulting & Distribution, a registered investment advisor (RIA), announced Ed McRedmond, John Davenport and Marty Plachko have joined the firm as Partners expanding its leadership, consulting and distribution team. McRedmond joined the firm as Senior Advisor, Key Accounts. He is the Founder of etfEd Advisory and has over twenty years of experience in the ETF industry in a variety of roles including key accounts, institutional sales, relationship management, platform development, research and model portfolio management.

Plachko joined the firm in March as head of distribution and consulting efforts for the west coast. Martin has more than two decades of investment management experience serving financial advisors, RIAs and family offices. He previously served in business development roles with Invesco, PowerShares and BNY Mellon | Pershing.

Davenport onboarded as head of distribution and consulting for the East Coast. He has more than two decades of portfolio management, and business development experience with roles at Invesco, PowerShares and RYDEX-SGI. He previously was director of research for a large regional RIA in the mid-Atlantic, and served as a portfolio strategist with Wachovia Securities, helping manage the multi-billion-dollar discretionary portfolio models.

CLS, a market infrastructure group delivering settlement, processing and data solutions, hired Keith Tippell has been appointed as the new Head of Product. Tippell has over 20 years of experience in the financial technology sector and joined from Droit Financial Technologies, where he worked as Head of Business Development for Europe and Asia Pacific. Previously, he held numerous product management and business development roles, including with SWIFT and Markit.

Karen Kuder has been appointed General Counsel of Deutsche Bank and Global Head of the Legal department. Kuder succeeds Florian Drinhausen, who, as announced at the end of April, will leave the bank on May 31. She reports to Stefan Simon.

Sterling Trading Tech landed Farid (Freddy) Zainal as the Director of Business Development. With over 30 years of experience in the securities industry, Zainal brings a deep knowledge of equity  markets to the STT team. He is an established presence within the industry and has held a variety of roles including; Senior Vice President with Spear, Leeds & Kellogg managing CBOE trading floor operations, San Francisco Branch Manager for Goldman Sachs Execution and Clearing as well as a Former Partner with Merlin Securities, before being acquired by Wells Fargo Securities.

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association reported two new directors have joined its Board of Directors – Tina Hasenpusch, Managing Director, Global Head of Clearing House Operations, CME Group and Taihei Okabe, Managing Director, Head of Derivatives Trading, Mizuho Securities Co., Ltd.

Hasenpusch also serves as a member of CME Group’s Clearing House Management Team. Before assuming this role in July 2017, she was Chief Executive Officer of CME Clearing Europe from June 2015.

Okabe was formerly a Corporate Officer in the Global Market Coordination Division at Mizuho Financial Group in Tokyo. Before that, he was Head of the Derivatives Product Group in the European Treasury Division at Mizuho Bank in London between April 2011 and January 2016. He joined Mizuho Financial Group in April 1997.

Ideal Prediction, an independent trading analysis and data science company for capital markets, has named Walter Bell as its Chief Technology Officer. Bell, a veteran with more than 20 years of experience in capital markets, joined from Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he led an international team as the Global Head of Rates eTrading Quants. Prior to this, he managed technology teams in eFX Development, Cross Asset Trading and Global Arbitrage Trading at Credit Suisse. Earlier in his career he was a Senior Product Manager at Broadway Technology.

Capco, a global technology and management consultancy, named Alla Gancz as its new Head of Digital for the UK. Prior to joining Capco, she was Digital Transformation Lead, Financial Services Europe at Infosys.
