Traders On The Move

Here are some recent hires and promotions in the equities trading world as Wall Street pros make that move, right now. Read about which former official at the Securities and Exchange Commission is now heading the legal team at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

FINRA named Robert Colby as its new chief legal officer. Colby is a former SEC official and was involved in all of the major market structure changes in equities over the last two decades. He replaces Marc Menchel and T. Grant Callery, both of whom left the organization. Colby, a veteran of more than 30 years, comes from the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell, which he joined in 2009 after leaving the SEC. He was named a partner a year later in the financial institutions and trading markets practices. Prior to that, he spent 28 years at the SEC, where he served as a deputy director of the division of trading and markets from 1993 until 2009. He also served as the acting director for one year, ending in 2006.

 


 

Dmitri Galinov was named chief executive of FastMatch, an FX ECN. Galinov, a 17-year veteran, was previously head of liquidity strategy at Credit Suisse, where he spent almost five years. At Credit Suisse, he ran the bulge firm’s in-house crossing network, Crossfinder, and its ECN Light Pool. He was also in charge of routing strategies for its electronic trading platform, AES. He joined Credit Suisse from Direct Edge ECN, where he was director of strategy and spent three years. Earlier in his career, he built and managed Lava Trading’s direct-market-access product for the buyside. Galinov reports to the board.

 


 

Jamil Nazarali, a senior managing director at Citadel Execution Services, was named president of the wholesaler business this month. He replaces Andrew Kolinsky, who is retiring. Nazarali joined Citadel in September of last year, after working for competitor Knight Capital Group for 11 years.

 


 

Trading analytics veterans Jeff Alexander and Linda Giordano join Barclays Capital as directors in New York. They were previously with SJ Levinson & Sons. At Barclays, they will be involved with Portfolio WebBench, the firm’s suite of pre- and post-trade analytic tools. Alexander, a 19-year veteran, worked for three years at Bloomberg, where he headed product development for equity trading analytics and strategies. Earlier, he spent eight years at Credit Suisse Asset Management as a trading strategist. Giordano, with more than 20 years’ experience, worked with Alexander at Bloomberg before joining him at SJ Levinson. Giordano spent the bulk of her career at Instinet, but also had a four-year stint at Citi. Both report to Barclays’ execs Bill White, head of electronic trading, and Bill Bell, head of electronic distribution Americas.

 


 

 

Raymond James has added sale trader Paul Cornette in New York. Cornette, a former buysider with 19 years’ experience, will cover asset managers across North America. He comes from Cowen & Co. and reports to Paul Powers.
