People On The Move

Raymond Tierney III was named chief executive and president of Bloomberg Tradebook. Tierney, a 29-year veteran, joins from Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he headed the money manager’s global trading effort. After joining MSIM in 2006, he restructured the firm’s trading process and introduced electronic trading and analytics. The changes were featured in a Traders Magazine cover story in February 2008. Before joining MSIM, Tierney spent his entire career on the sellside, including 12 years at Morgan Stanley in a sales capacity. He was named a managing director in 1998 and was later tapped to head U.S. cash equities distribution, a position he held from 2003 until 2006. Earlier in his career, he worked at Paine Webber before moving to Credit Suisse and UBS, respectively. Tierney is a member of NOIP and is a past co-chairman of Wings Over Wall Street.

 


 

George Hessler was named chief executive officer and president of Stock USA, which trades equities and equity-linked securities. Hessler, a 25-year veteran, oversees all areas of the firm’s operations, including its core electronic trading business.Prior to joining, Hessler spent three years at Lime Brokerage overseeing electronic trading and six years at Lava Trading as senior vice president. At Lava, Hessler held several positions, including head of marketing, director of sales and head of strategy. At Stock USA, he reports to Guy Gentile, the company’s chairman.

 


 

Liquidnet hired two executives for its Boston office. Bill Donnelly joins as a senior relationship manager. Donnelly, a nine-year veteran who spent most of his career at Lehman Brothers, joins after a year at Pragma. Brian Williamson, a longtime trader at money manager The Boston Co., is responsible for proprietary research and product development. Both report to Alfred Eskandar, head of U.S. equities.

 


 

Robert McHeffey joins Newedge in cash equities sales. McHeffey, a 24-year veteran, was previously with Schooner, a hedge he co-founded. Schooner employed a quantitative market neutral strategy. He reports to Mark Viani, who heads trading.

 


 

Cheevers & Co. added Mark Emola and Robert Markulin to its trading desk in Chicago. The two have more than 30 years experience between them trading both domestic and international stocks. Emola was previously with Cabrera Capital Markets. Markulin was previously the head trader at Cabrera Capital Markets and Melvin & Co.

 


 

Geffery Gioia joins Wunderlich Securities as a sales trader in Cleveland. Gioia, a 17-year industry veteran, is a senior vice president. He was a founding member in 1996 of Midwest Research, which became FTN Equity Capital Markets. Gioia reports to Steve Iskalis, who is in the firm’s Denver office.

 


 

Doug Hurry joins SunGard as a salesman. Hurry, a 10-year veteran in electronic trading sales, spent his last two years at TraderForum, where he ran its U.S. and European conference business catering to buyside equity traders. At SunGard, he will be selling its order management product and brokerage services. The move marks his return to SunGard, as Hurry worked for the Brut ECN, which SunGard sold to Nasdaq in 2004.

 


 

Dan Smalley was promoted to head of enterprise business development in the U.S. at Fidessa from his previous role as head of new business development in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Smalley, a 15-year pro who joined Fidessa in 2005, will be responsible for expanding the company’s growth in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. He will report to CEO Mark Ames.

 

Fidessa also hired Jill Harrington as an account manager. Harrington, a 15-year veteran who started her career as a floor specialist, left the ISE Stock Exchange after three and a half years. At Fidessa, her role is to manage relationships and expand the company’s derivatives business. She reports to Chris Valpone.

 


 

Gina Fenton joins the Williams Capital Group’s New York office as vice president in electronic trading sales and marketing. Fenton, a 25-year veteran, came from Pipeline Trading Systems, where she spent six years as an execution consultant and managing director in sales.

 

Williams Capital also recruited 18-year sales trading veteran Ledice Sweeney, who will be working in the firm’s New York and Westport, Conn. offices. Sweeney previously spent four years at AltruShare Securities.

 


 

Collins Stewart hired a team of sales traders for its new office in Minnetonka, Minn. The group was previously with Pali Capital, which closed this year. Paul Prentice, an 18-year veteran, heads the desk. Prentice, who joined Pali in 2005, will look to grow Collins Stewart’s Midwest trading and sales business. He reports to John Abularrage.

Also joining Collins Stewart from Pali as sales traders are 10-year veteran Greg Pfleider and 15-year pros Matt Dorn and Peter Thompson. John Burkhartzmeyer, a 17-year veteran, focuses on equities derivatives. He reports to Abularrage.

 


 

Don Heckman joins Fidelity Capital Markets as a sales trader in New York. Heckman, a 16-year veteran, was previously with NYFIX. Heckman spent two years at BNY ConvergEx.

 


 

Marty Cunningham joins Esposito Securities as executive vice president. Cunningham, a 28-year veteran, was hired to open a New York office. He was previously chief executive officer of Hudson Securities. Earlier, Cunningham was at Schwab Capital Markets, where he was a senior vice president in equity trading and sales.

 


 

Stock exchange Direct Edge recently named its new 10-member board of directors.

They are James Angel, a finance professor at Georgetown University; Larry Bergmann, a longtime SEC official in the Division of Market Regulation now in private practice; Stephen Brodsky, a managing director at private equity firm Vernon & Park Capital and former head of the Chicago Stock Exchange; William Dailey, special counsel at the law firm Fox Rothschild and previously general counsel at Bear Wagner; Scott Ganeles, CEO of Ipreo, which services the capital markets; Patrick Healy, CEO of the Issuer Advisory Group, which assists public companies; Sam Scott Miller, senior counsel at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and chairman of its market regulation group; Mark Minister, a longtime executive in the trading and financial information field, including senior roles at Bridge Trading and SunGard; George Munoz, principal of investment banking firm Munoz Group; and Richard Schenkman, managing partner at Elm Tree Group, a private investment firm, and former CEO of Brut.

 


 

Linda Zilliox joins Smart Trade Technologies as a marketing manager, a new role at the firm. Zilliox, a five-year pro, was previously with NYFIX, where she spent three years as marketing manager and oversaw the firm’s events and promotions. She reports to Margaret Bailey.
