ON THE MOVE: John Emmert to Liquidnet; Glimpse Adds Mike Thorpe

Liquidnet appointed John Emmert as Head of Trading Desk for the Americas. The agency-only Trading Desk operates within Liquidnet’s Execution and Quantitative Services group. In his new role, Emmert will focus on developing a new trading experience that brings together specialized institutional expertise and insight, unique liquidity search tools, and real-time analytics across the desk’s algorithmic program and single-stock trading capabilities. Based in New York, he reports directly to Liquidnet’s Head of Execution and Quantitative Services, Americas, Mike Capelli. Emmert has more than two decades of trading and client relationship building experience. Most recently, he worked at ITG as Director on the Global Portfolio Trading team, previously, Emmert worked for 10 years at Deutsche Bank Securities as Director in the Global Program Sales and Trading Group and held senior level trading and sales positions at Société Générale, Susquehanna International Group, BNP Paribas, and Bankers Trust.

Glimpse Markets, a data pooling platform for fixed income traders, appointed Mike Thorpe as senior sales advisor. Thorpe, who started his career in capital markets with Citi in 1985, has a long track record of leading sales teams in the fixed income currency and commodities sector for market operators and service providers. He ran MarketAxess sales team between 2001 and 2005 in the UK, and spent 15 years at Tradeweb as managing director and head of European sales. Most recently he was head of sales at Mosaic Smart Data.

Broadridge appointed Jerome Hoffman to the newly created role of Head of International Partnerships and Alliances, focusing on the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions. Hoffman will focus on creating and further developing relationships with firms across the financial services spectrum, including technology vendors and service providers, consultancies, system integrators, market intermediaries and infrastructure providers. A nine-year Broadridge vet, Hoffman reports to Mike Thrower, VP International Account Management. Prior to Broadridge, Hoffman held senior business development roles at Harland Financial, SIX Telekurs and Bank of Ireland.

big xyt, a provider of data and analytics solutions to trading and investment firms, announced that Philip Barnes has joined as Managing Director, Asia Pacific Head of Business Development. During his 25-year career in Asia covering strategy, business development, and new business sales to the global financial community, Philip has worked at firms including Thomson Financial, Sungard, Broadridge, Fidessa and NYSE Euronext. His appointment follows soon after the firm’s announcement of Jenny Chen’s appointment in New York, USA, to service the North American market.

Macrobond, a provider of economic and financial data, appointed Howard Rees as Chief Commercial Officer to oversee global sales, customer activities, and strategic partnerships from the company’s London office. Rees most recently served as Head of International Sales at Burgiss, where he led the US private-equity data and analytics provider’s expansion across key markets. Prior to that, he held senior leadership sales roles at Bloomberg LP globally, including Global Head of Sales for the Bloomberg Data Management Services (formerly Bloomberg PolarLake) solution, Head of their UK buy-side division, as well as EMEA Head of Business Development. 

Substantive Research, a research discovery and research spend analytics provider for the buy side, hired Michael Malpiede as Senior Sales Associate Americas, and Alex Mackinnon as Sales Associate in Europe. Substantive Research also hired two developers, Daniel Kasprowicz and Kelly Jones, to accelerate product development and key deployments for 2021 across its asset management clients.
