Exegy Inc., a provider of managed services and low-latency technology for market data normalization and distribution, has announced today that its Packet Capture Service has been selected as the source of high-precision historical Securities Information Processor (SIP) market data for the Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT).

The Exegy Packet Capture Service provides on-demand access to complete recordings of market data feeds in their native formats for the U.S. equities and options markets.

"Access to a complete set of recorded market data with high-precision timestamps is an essential requirement of many market participants," said Exegy chief executive officer James O'Donnell. "The determination by the CAT to utilize the Exegy Packet Capture Service underscores the incredible value of our high-quality market data, ease of integration, and affordability."

The Exegy Packet Capture Service is enabled by resilient Exegy Packet Capture Replay (PCR) appliances located in co-location data centers in Secaucus, New Jersey. The appliances consume direct and SIP feeds from U.S. equities and options exchanges. Every packet received from the live market data feeds is assigned a timestamp with nanosecond precision by the network interface hardware of the Exegy PCR appliances. Exegy delivers complete recordings of selected feeds to customers via file transfers over local network cross connections or remote Internet connections. If required by an exchange or feed source, Exegy also performs the necessary market data vendor reporting services.

In addition to enabling regulatory surveillance, the data provided by Exegy's Packet Capture Service can be utilized for testing electronic trading infrastructure, loading historical tick databases and analytics platforms, troubleshooting market data networks, and enabling best execution and transaction cost analysis. "Our on-demand data service offloads a tedious, but essential task for a large number of market participants. While the technology to perform high-precision packet capture is becoming a commodity, our service provides the unique benefit of providing market participants the same data with the same timestamps as the data used by the Consolidated Audit Trail system," said Exegy chief technology officer David Taylor. Exegy plans to extend its Packet Capture Services to additional data centers and market data feeds in North America, Europe, and Asia.
