SEC to Lose Key Trading Official

Traders Magazine Online News, January 11, 2010

Peter Chapman

A top official in the Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Trading and Markets will leave the agency, sources tell Traders Magazine.

Dan Gallagher, who became a deputy director in the Division in July 2008, will depart the SEC sometime soon, according to sources. He will join a law firm, sources say, returning to the private sector and the increased compensation.

The SEC would neither confirm nor deny the news.

Gallagher is currently a co-deputy director along with James Brigagliano in the Division. Between April and December, the two were co-acting directors, replacing director Erik Sirri, who left in April.

Since Robert Cook took over as director of the division, Gallagher and Brigagliano resumed their roles as co-deputy directors.

Before joining the Division, Gallagher was counsel to SEC Chairman Chris Cox, and, before that, to Commissioner Paul Atkins. Prior to that, he was general counsel at Fiserv securities.
