ON THE MOVE: SEC, CAT and ISDA Hire Pros; Noll and Smith Depart

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced that Peter Uhlmann has been named the managing executive in the Office of Chairman Jay Clayton. Uhlmann will advise Chairman Clayton in matters relating to agency administration, operations, and management, and will serve as the Chairman's primary liaison to divisions and offices on these matters. He has served in a variety of senior leadership positions during his tenure at the SEC. Most recently, Uhlmann served as managing executive for then-Acting Chairman Michael S. Piwowar. Prior to that, he was managing executive of the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance, where he oversaw the internal business operations that support the division's personnel.

Cameron Smith, Quantilab

Prominent HFT professional and president of Quantlab, Cameron Smith, has decided to call it quits after 10 years. In a statement, confirmed by the firm, reported that Smith left to pursue “other fun out there." The statement also appeared on his personal Twitter feed. Smith joined Texas-based Quantlab in 2007, having spent a year as general counsel at the agency broker Instinet. Before that he was general counsel at the storied electronic trading platform The Island ECN, one of the first electronic share-trading platforms established in the US, which was acquired by Instinet in 2002. Smith was also a contributor at Traders Magazine.

The chief executive officer of Convergex, Eric Noll, is leaving the firm. Traders Magazine confirmed with the New York-based agency brokerage and technology company that Noll, who had overseen the acquisition of his firm to Cowen & Co, will be leaving the firm when the deal closes, which could be as soon as this week. He will remain a member and participant of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Equity Market Structure Advisory Committee. Noll began his career on Wall Street back in 1993 as an Assistant Vice President on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange in strategic planning. He then moved to the buy-side at Susquehanna International in 1994 as a Managing Director. He spent 15 years at SIG.

The former global head of equity sales at Barclays is set to join Credit Suisse as head of equities EMEA, according to an internal memo seen by The TRADE. Mike Di Iorio will join Credit Suisse in London at the end of August and will report to head of equities, Mike Stewart. At Barclays, Di Iorio was head of equities for APAC for three years before covering the derivatives, equity finance and cash markets as global head of equity sales. He has also held several positions with Lehman and Nomura where he managed flow equity derivatives, Delta1, cash trading and quantitative prop trading.
