ON THE MOVE: Liquidnet Lands Strobel for EMEA; O’Neil Hires Options Traders

Block trading firm Liquidnet announced the appointment of Patrick Strobel as Head of Technology for EMEA. In this newly formed role, Strobel will be responsible for building out Liquidnet’s strategic IT architecture in EMEA with an emphasis on the region’s Virtual High Touch MiFID II solutions. He brings over sixteen years’ experience delivering IT solutions for investment banks such as Deutsche Bank, where he came from, and JP Morgan. At Deutsche Bank, he held a number of senior roles including Head of P&L and IPV Technology, as well as Global Head of Equity Trading Analytics. He was responsible for building out Deutsche’s P&L reporting platform and defining the technology strategy for the domain. Prior to that, he oversaw the development of Deutsche’s equity trading analytics capability including TCA, pre-trade analytics and alpha capture on a global level. He reports to Bob Garrett, Head of Technology, based in New York.

Deutsche Bank’ current head of equities, Tom Patrick, has been asked to take on the additional role of CEO for the Americas Region. Patrick has been with the bank since 2012 after spending 18 years with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Also at the German Bank, Yashar Asl and Edgar Harty, the (now former) co-heads of electronic trading for EMEA in London have both left the firm following a dispute on reporting lines, following a reshuffle earlier last month. The two now look set to join French firm Exane, after a decision to push the two to report to head of systematic trading Neal Nadoo, looks to have provided the catalyst for the departures.

The New Zealand Stock Exchange appointed David Flacks as the independent Chair of NZX’s Regulatory Governance Committee.

The Board of Directors of National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited, an online multi commodity exchange, extended its Chief Executive Officer, Samir Shah, term by six months. Shah will be eligible to apply for the post which has been advertised in a national daily.

The Commodities Futures Trading Commission officially appointed Brian Quintenz as a Commissioner. His term expires in April 2020.

LXM Group has hired David Hegarty as Senior Trader in New York. Hegarty’s main role will be to broke U.S. equities and focus on facilitating the trading of ADR shares in Asian and European companies. Prior to joining LXM, he was Co-Head of Trading at Kepler Cheuvreux in New York, before moving to Jefferies in 2014 as Senior Vice President of Equity Trading. The firm also landed Joe Froschauer as Head of Trading and General Manager in the U.S. in July.
