Traders Magazine Introduces FLASHBACK FRIDAY Series

Traders Magazine Online News, May 12, 2017

What’s old is new again at Traders Magazine.

One of the best parts of my job here is curating the older issues of the print publications – fingering through the archives, checking out the history of institutional equities trading and seeing firsthand how the business of trading has changed. And trading has changed; moving from quoting in fractions to decimals, floor traders have been replaced by algorithms and codes, orders executed at a handful of exchanges to now over 40 different marketplaces. The times have changed indeed.

But as I get older and more mature, it is the remembrance of the past that often brings a smile to my face. Memories of when I was young and on the trading floor, watching trades done via hand signals and on pads. Traders Magazine has been there and documented it all – and now it’s time to open the vaults, dust off the yearbook and take a walk down memory lane.

Introducing Flashback Friday – a new series brought to readers by Instinet that celebrates the history of equities trading as chronicled by Traders Magazine. Similar to what readers see on social media sites, every Friday, we will take a walk down memory lane and recount the highlights of a specific month and year. The travails, the trials and the triumphs in a concise yet compact format will be presented and highlighted. And of course, Traders Magazine will dust off the old photos and give a peek back at when we were all young like the pre-Reg NMS market.

Please join us in celebrating the rich tapestry of the equities market and Traders Magazine by looking out for the special Friday email, dedicated section on the website and social media hashtag #FBFTraders.

From the Archives,

John
