Chris Concannon joined New York-based Virtu Financial, a newly formed proprietary trading firm, as a partner. Previously, he led Nasdaq OMX Group's transaction services unit, which oversees the parent company's U.S. equities and options markets, as well as the European multilateral trading facility. He joined the exchange in 2003 from Instinet Clearing Services.

Robert (Rob) Hegarty has been appointed to the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp.'s newly created position of managing director of market structure. Hegarty joins DTCC after about 10 years at research consultancy TowerGroup. There he served the last seven years as managing director of securities and investments and insurance.

JonesTrading has added to its U.S. sales force. It now has more than 90 traders with more than 15 years of experience, on average. Bernie Blaney joined the Boston office. Blaney will focus on client acquisition and increasing order flow. He will report to George Harrington, who heads the Boston office. Blaney has over 20 years' experience in the brokerage industry. He spent the previous 11 years as the head of sales trading in Lehman Brothers' Boston office.

Keith Gertsen joined Greenwich, Conn.-based hedge fund Viking Global as global head of trading in January. Gertsen, who joins the $10 billion firm that invests across asset classes, is responsible for trading and relationship management, as well as other management and strategic duties. He joins from AllianceBernstein, where he headed global trading for three years. He was also featured in Traders Magazine February 2008 issue. Greg Rosenberg is the interim global head of trading at AllianceBernstein.

Jack Hughes joined Compass Point Research & Trading as a managing director and opened a Philadelphia office for the Washington, D.C.-based firm. Hughes, with more than 30 years' experience, spent most of his career at Janney Montgomery Scott as head of trading and capital markets. He is overseeing the expansion of the new office and is looking to build Compass Point's research sales force, with an eye toward building a trading desk.
