xCelor Offers Network Switches

By John D'Antona Jr.

xCelor is now offering Layer 1 network switches with a port-to-port latency of two to four nanoseconds.

The launch, according to xCelor, is significant because it further reduces inbound market data latency by cutting out the unnecessary processing employed by the full-service switches typically used in data centers today. xCelor offers three devices in its xPort series:

* The XPR (xPort Replicator) is like an optical tap, but with full diagnostics and manageability, SNMP support and out-of-band management. And with a command line interface you understand. The XPR replicates data coming in on one port out to 15, 31 or 47 others, effectively giving you tens of exchange handoffs without the cost.

* The XPP (xPort Patch Panel) is a dynamic patch panel-again with full xPort diagnostics and manageability-allowing you to dynamically reroute connections on demand. By giving your broker access to the device (and access to nothing else), it can also be used as an ultra-low-latency kill switch.

* The XPM (xPort Mesh) is both an XPR and an XPP in a single device, offering unlimited port groupings.
