Options IT Adds Market Data Accelerator

By James Ramage

If market data is the lifeblood of high-frequency trading strategies, then Options IT wants to make sure it pumps faster for its clients.

The builder of infrastructure-as-a-service technology added Exegy Inc.'s market data accelerator, called Exegy Ticker Plant, to the list of feed handler options on its platform that high-frequency, collocated traders can use to speed up market data delivery. Options IT installed Ticker Plant on its Options Pipe Platform, said the firm's chief executive, Nigel Kneafsey.

"That's one of the advantages of an ultra-low-latency feed handler," he said. "It is extremely fast, and it doesn't slow down with higher volumes."

High-speed market makers, hedge funds and prop shops may do innumerable trades each day. They base their strategies on faster access to trading venues and market data.

The Ticker Plant market data appliance accelerates the movement of market data for high-frequency trading clients. It allows for sustained throughput of 2.5 million messages per second, the firm said.

Through its Options PIPE Platform, Options IT provides high-frequency traders the hardware, infrastructure and connectivity to the markets. Clients can then select their own software applications, such as algorithms.

Exegy Ticker Plant takes Options IT's market data feed content, puts it in a standardized format and then places it into the client's application at high speed. The result, Kneafsey said, is a really low-latency conduit to the market data.
