Diane Startari was appointed to group head of trading for Federated Investors' global equity division. Startari replaces David Briggs who retired (See Traders Magazine, June 2007). She oversees Federated's seven equity traders who trade 4.2 million shares on average each day for Federated's 51 equity mutual funds. She will be responsible for the alpha generation from Federated's equity trading desk, the coordination of the operational aspects of running an efficient trading desk and for compliance oversight of the equity trading desk's activities. Startari, who has 16 years of investment experience, most recently served as senior trader in Federated's global equity unit, where she was responsible for domestic equity and futures trading.

Longtime Lehman Brothers exec Rob Arancio made an internal move at the bulge bracket firm, going from the sellside to the buyside. Arancio was recently named head of equity trading for the investment management division at Lehman.

Previously co-head of U.S. Liquid Markets, he now oversees trading across the entire spectrum of asset management products, which includes Neuberger Berman (both institutional and retail) and equity-related hedge funds. Arancio reports to Joe Amato, global head of asset management.

Sandy Reinhardt joined UBS Securities Canada as a sales trader. Reinhardt joins UBS from Merrill Lynch.

Clyde White joined Natixis Capital Markets as a managing director responsible for listed equity derivatives sales. White previously worked as a derivatives sales trader at Morgan Stanley.

Monte Lehmkuhler was named head of equity trading and a senior managing director at FBR Capital Markets, a majority-owned subsidiary of Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group. Lehmkuhler, who joined FBR in 1997, has more than 15 years of industry experience. Before joining FBR, he had been an equities trader at Wheat First Securities for more than seven years. He is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Securities Traders Association.

Thomas Fisher has gotten a new title at Radnor Research and Trading, director of research and institutional trading. He was previously director of trading.

Steve Brodsky was made president of the Chicago Stock Exchange and its parent company, CHX Holdings. Brodsky was previously senior vice president of strategic planning and chief financial officer.

Investment Technology Group named Maureen O'Hara as chairwoman of its board. O'Hara, a finance professor at Cornell University, has been an ITG director for two years. She replaces Ray Killian, who retired this spring.

Capital markets consultancies Acai Solutions, of New York, and Atlantic Link Management Services, of London, entered into a strategic alliance. Bill Cline is chief executive of Acai Solutions. Gerard Kenny and Eric Werner run Atlantic Link.

Soleil Securities picked up two sales traders. Chad Bartels joined from Gilford Securities. Prior to that he was at Jefferies & Co. Todd Higgins joined from HSBC. Prior to that he was at Prudential Equity Group.

Lehman Brothers recently had a promotion and added a hire to its electronic trading sales group. Brian Fagen has taken on the additional role as head of U.S. program trading sales. Fagen continues as head of U.S. sales for Lehman's electronic trading products. Matt Senecal joins Lehman Brothers as a senior vice president to manage the U.S. electronic trading sales team. Senecal, who reports to Fagen, joins Lehman from Morgan Stanley, where they had previously worked together.
