*Advest named Kevin Prell head of equity trading. Prell will manage the firm's trading desks in both New York and Hartford.

*Jerker Johansson, who ran European equities at Morgan Stanley, has been named head of institutional equities at Morgan Stanley. Johansson replaces John Havens, who left Morgan Stanley following a management shakeup.

*Jim Leman joined HSBC Securities (USA) as head of execution trading for the Americas. Leman will be responsible for all program, algorithmic and direct market access trading. He will report to Kevin Bourne, global head of execution trading and Anthony Murphy, chief executive of HSBC. Leman was previously president of SunGard Trading Systems/Brass.

*Colin Clark joined the New York Stock Exchange as vice president, competitive analysis. Clark is a former equities analyst with Merrill Lynch. Clark reports to Bob McSweeney, senior vice president, competitive position.

*Andrew Larkin joined Investment Technology Group as managing director of client site sales and trading. Larkin rejoined ITG from Morgan Stanley, where he headed up the account management team in the electronic trading group.

*TowerGroup named Steve Crosby as the new leader of the securities and investments consulting team. Crosby joins from British Telecom's financial services operations in the Americas.

*Ladenburg Thalmann has a new director of sales trading, Michael Philipps. Most recently, he was on the institutional sales desk at Harris Nesbitt. Philipps has been an institutional sales trader for about 17 years.

*Frank Troise joined Lehman Brothers as a managing director in charge of U.S. connectivity products. Troise was previously with ITG.

*Dennis Sotos joined Cabrera Capital Markets in Chicago as a trader. Sotos was previously a trader with Melvin Securities. *Neal Wolkoff was named chairman and CEO of the American Stock Exchange. Wolkoff had been acting CEO since January. *George Rodriguez joined Algorithm Trading Solutions (ATS), the algorithm-based equity trading division of TradeTrek Securities, as a managing director. He joins ATS from Guzman & Company. *royalblue expanded its Fidessa OMS project management team. David Bull will focus on market data. Ian Salmon will specialize in continental Europe and list trading. Bull was previously with Thomson Financial's TOPIC and GlobalTOPIC systems. Salmon was with Reuters and the Swiss Stock Exchange.

*Nexa Technologies expanded its sales team. Tom Myers joined as vice president of sales in the U.S. Matthew Barkway joined as director of European sales. Myers previously worked for direct access vendor TradeStation. Barkway was originally a derivatives trader. *, the frontoffice, pre-trade messaging outfit, announced the appointment of Nicholas Davidge to the board of directors. Davidge joins the Indii founders, Marshall Caro and Walter Raquet, and brings the number of directors to three. Davidge was one of the original pioneers of Davidge Data Systems.
