NYSE Is Looking to London

By Staff Reports

The Big Board, which is considering beginning its sessions earlier, wants to take some of the London Stock Exchange's business, says an NYSE official.

However, NYSE President and co-CEO, Catherine Kinney, says the Big Board has no intention of buying the venerable British exchange. The LSE has been in takeover talks with some of its European counterparts, including Euronext and Deutsche Boerse.

How would the NYSE try to tap into the LSE's business? Kinney said her group wants to go beyond U.S. listed American Depository Receipts. It is looking at ways of becoming a secondary market for European listed stocks.
