Building Up Trading Services

By Staff Reports

Piper Jaffray says it will have more algorithm execution capabilities with the purchase of broker dealer Vie Securities.

The Minneapolis-based firm says the purchase will also allow it to offer its institutional clients more products.

The acquisition includes proprietary algorithms, direct market access systems and licensed trading technology. The electronic trade execution service will be operated independent of Piper's traditional market making activities. Vie clients will still receive service under the Vie name until the transaction closes sometime before the end of the year.
